Well, Sansa had Margarey later, no? (And Jeyne Poole before, but of course she got taken away after shit went down).

The beating's mentioned in book 5: "Once he leapt right into Old Nan and knocked her to the floor. That earned him the worst thrashing he ever had at Winterfell [...]" Of course, it's "only" corporal punishment and it obviously is a common thing in Westeros, but so is beating your wife...

So, to sum up: Theon had to go live with the people who were responsible for wrecking his home and killing his brothers when he was 9. He was a shy and meek child then, as Asha/Yara recalls at one point. He was "thrashed" more than once. He was afraid of Ned and most other people were indifferent or cold to him, except Robb. He knew that Ned would behead him if his father would rebel again (or at least, that's what he thought).

How could anyone call this a nice/true family by ANY means? Yeah, they were nicer than his real family (at least minus the beheading/hostage thing), and they were nicer than the Boltons were (easy thing lol), but the Starks were still not a real family. He was never one of them. Heck, it is Theon's main plot point that he does not have a true family. No one who wants and accepts him. "Theon wondered what that would be like, to have a home."

Theon did a lot of things for which he might deserve some form punishment, but betraying the Starks is not one of them. He betrayed Robb, not the Starks. And that also was more a personal/friendship kind of betraying (since in the books he actually never swore an oath of fielty to Robb).

Do you honestly think that Ned would behead Theon? He was a man of honor; he could never bring himself to kill a child.

Yes, I think he would. Exactly because of that. He follows the laws and he is a man of his word. It's the whole reason he took Theon to begin with. There is no point in taking a hostage if you don't follow through (see Dany).
Even if in the end he would not do it because he thinks it's below him or that Theon is more use to him alive, young Theon doesn't know that. He had well enough reasons to be afraid imho.

Wow, this is an awesome point! (Never thought of it like that.) I'm enjoying all your Theon art BTW.

Oh, thank you!

Many people tend to see the whole story a bit too much from just the Stark perspective, I think.

It's not all so black and white. Which is exactly why I like the series so much. ^^

Oh yeah! I love the subtle perspective change from Starks to Lannisters and others over the series of books. While I like Jon and Sansa, and Arya too I guess, the Starks are probably the least interesting faction.

Same here! I find that pretty awesome. Personally, I don't hate any of the point of view characters in the books. I don't think you're supposed to.
And yeah, while I like the Starks too, they are certainly not my favorites either. ^^

I'm such a sucker for multiple viewpoint stories! ^_^ My favourite character has to be Tyrion, because he's a) funny and b) clever which are two traits I can't help but admire.

Weirdly, with Theon, it's not admiration so much as pathos. I feel for him. Then when he does the things he does ... I hate him for that but still understand why he does it.

(I'm pretty sure I hate Cersei, but, you know, she's still a cool character even though she's utterly unlikeable!)

Thrumugnyr In reply to Karasunokazu [2013-09-01 17:42:53 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I actually do kind of like Cersei....but it's more in that I feel bad for her and how she gets taken over by her paranoia and such and less because I think she is so great.

Yeah, it's a bit similar with Theon. Of course, I was pissed at the shit he did in Winterfell too, but I can understand why he did it and I kind of feel for him anyway.

Karasunokazu In reply to Thrumugnyr [2013-09-03 16:23:21 +0000 UTC]

I think what happens to Cersei is justified. She over-reached her ambition and got taken down.

What happened to Theon can never, ever be justified. It's perfectly horrible.

Thrumugnyr In reply to Karasunokazu [2013-09-03 17:10:37 +0000 UTC]

Technically, so did Theon though. lol I agree, Cersei ended where she did all by her own mistakes. But her punishment was still totally inadequate, imho. Of course Theons was even worse in that regard...but then I am in general very against these medieval forms of punishment.

Me too. Everything was so brutal and bloody. I like civilisation ... even if it is but a thin veneer over human nature. XD

this NEEDS to happen *_* even though theon would probably lapse back into reek if ramsay was anywhere near him again....eh

anyhow awesome job! ramsay's line and his expression are spot on

Thrumugnyr In reply to Lemonteaz [2013-07-25 08:23:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! But yeah...the only way I could really see it happen is if Asha (or someone else) was with him (and was actually the one stabbing Ramsay) lol Then he could probably manage a reply like that.

Lemonteaz In reply to Thrumugnyr [2013-07-25 08:29:45 +0000 UTC]

Or perhaps best case scenario...Asha or someone IS with him..and is about to finish off Ramsay and then Theon steps in all like "No. Let me do it." that. would be amazing *_* oh no wait...cant get my hopes up lest Martin crush them once more.

Something like that would be a dream ending for Ramsay!
But alas, you never get what you want with this series and most likely is that it will be Roose himself who offs him in some other way haha...^^'

I wouldn't want Theon killing Ramsay per say (nor Jeyne), if anything because I kinda feel Theon would go back to his Reek state if Ramsay is near him...

Regardless, him standing up and being all "I'M THEON, BITCH. GET IT RIGHT FOR ONCE" would make my heart leap in joy.

Thrumugnyr In reply to DamaNym [2013-06-23 11:10:35 +0000 UTC]

Eh, I don't think Theon could kill Ramsay either. He doesn't seem to have the strength, mentally or physically. Maybe Asha could, or someone else, but I'm sure once Ramsay lies dieing, Theon could find some courage for backtalk like that. ^^

i'd personally hope for something more painful and ironic(something on the line of a few point-blank dung-smeared arrows in specific places...) for the slimy bastard, but this would work as well.

sadly, we all know that GRRM is a huge troll and he's not going to kill him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Thrumugnyr In reply to Kaptain-Kefiah [2013-06-13 09:40:31 +0000 UTC]

I think painful torture is just not the way to go. Shouldn't we have learned from Theons storyline that overly harsh punishment is just not how the world should be? I don't know...

I personally don't even think Theon could kill him (maybe Asha could), but I do hope he can talk to him once more. Just because...I think it would have a bigger impact than Ramsay being eaten alive by dogs, or burned or quartered or flayed or...whatever XD At least for me. But yeah, in the end he might even survive, because GRRM is like that. lol

Kaptain-Kefiah In reply to Thrumugnyr [2013-06-13 15:25:39 +0000 UTC]

not torture, just a nasty death.

yeah, Asha would be fine as well, Theon may manage to kill Roose instead(at least atoning for his betrayal), or anyway have a key role in destroying the boltons.

Thrumugnyr In reply to Kaptain-Kefiah [2013-06-13 15:42:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, I do hope for something nastier than Joffrey.

Theon can give Stannis valuable information, so that should help against the Boltons at least. I would like him having a more important role once more though.

That would be incredible!

If Theon doesn't give Ramsay retribution in the books, then I would definitely love to see it on the show.

If Daenerys can stand up to her brother, then Theon can stand up to his abuser as well.
