The idea of the contest is to draw one of *hawkeye-maverick 's characters in a pic inspired by their theme song. This is Terra the Porcupine [link] with her theme "unbreakable" by Fireflight [link]
When I listened to Terra's themesong this image practically leapt into my head. I thought at first it would be to hard for me to draw, so I listened to the other charrie's themes, but I like this one best. I ended up pulling this pose infront of a mirror to try to figure out how to draw it! I gave her slightly more human proportions because 1: she's over 5 foot tall and 2: I was using myself as a ref.
I had to draught this 4 times before I was happy
The "background" is just me playing about with the soft pastels I got for christmas. I originally wanted to have her standing infront of a concrete building- but I can't draw buildings for shit, and the grey concrete would blend with Terra's black and grey clothes and look like poop. So you have pastel clouds. deal with it.

Wow. I mean wow.
You did such a great job with the posing. I can see now why you said it would be so hard but you pulled it off girl! Your coloring and shading looks fantastic as well. And the way you drew her clothing and how you shaded the wrinkles...I'm jealous. It's amazing. And it definitely heightens the posing since the wrinkles follow the body lines really well. Her body lines also look great. Good job with the anatomy ^^
Speaking of the anatomy, I really like your take on her proportions. The few times I've seen someone draw her with more human proportions, they made her stocky (that's usually my take as well) but I like how you made her more tall and lanky in the legs. It works well with the piece and actually puts a rather eloquent look to her. It's interesting how you drew her without shoes as well, but it looks great
Nice touch with the lines coming off her bo staff and the layout of the text looks really nice. Easy to read and good flow.
I do agree with *ThePurpleWind 's comment that the background does clash a little. I know from personal experience Terra's pretty difficult to find a solid background for because of her colors but it's nice to see you trying new art tools though and the overall technique of the pastel clouds actually looks good.

I couldn't figure out how to draw her up on the balls of her feet with those chunky shoes, so I just drew her barefoot.

Yeah they are pretty chunky shoes XD I kind of draw them that way because my thinking is that she needs thick shoes if she's shifting earth and rocks all the time so they help protect her feet XD

Was my first time using soft pastels and I went a bit nuts. Personally I like it, but I also understand that it clashes quite badly with Terra. A cotest entry probably wasn't the best thing to try out my new toys on

Welcome, I think. XD I'm not used to pointing out things...
I've done the same thing, since most of the things I do are new. Almost every drawing is of something I have never drawn before, and I am always trying out new mediums I've never even touched. It's probably the reason why I can't keep a consistency throughout my work. I just don't know what I'm working with yet, or how exactly to go at drawing a certain subject.
Reflecting on this, however.. And idea I got was if you didn't want to create a detailed city background, you could just use a gradient backdrop to suggest such.
