An excellent noodle doodle. Love the Foxhound! I also really dig that you're gone for a more "beak" route with their faces. The only note I would have to that is that it means they wouldn't have a working radar randome, but considering yours are mimics - it probably doesn't matter for them. (Perhaps alternative forms of sensing for BVR "sight?")
I used to feel the same way about line art, many years ago - it'd always constrain my work, take forever and look like crap over the sketch. Over time I found there are 2 reasons for this:Β
1) When you're sketching, you're drawing more naturally and not obsessing about closing up lines or perfectly controlling the pen strokes.
2) Sketches tend to be more loose, so when you don't have all the lines super defined, your brain will fill in the blanks with what you imagine it to be. This is why in automotive studios it's always the tiny sketch in the corner that the design chief tends to pick out, and it's like "fuuuuuu" when you try to bring that sketch into reality. Same reasons! (And a pain in the ass for designers :"D)
Over time I've personally found that I don't need to have a distinction between "under-sketch" and "line art" if I don't WANT to. The sketch could be the line art! Two things happened - line work became much smoother and more natural since I was allowing it to be more loose, and "sketching" became more precise in terms of line economy. (Both of theseΒ things will also tend to happen as you pick up more sketch mileage.) I still have my ARGHHH moments with linework, since over-working my sketches takes time, and a happy medium seems to be hybridizing it with painting - but everyone is different.
Edit: I will also add that my under-sketch style changed as well, going for ultra fast loose doodles/silhouettes and then making the clearer sketch/lines over the top.Β
Anywyas, long comment, IDK I hope that can help you some! Just play with it and don't worry about perfection (easier said than done, but true! )

Dude that is the most legit thing anyone has said to me on this website : oΒ All of what you just said basically validated my entire struggle with art. All of those things are why I have a weird form of art block right now. Thank you for the encouragement and advice !! I will definitely keep trying to improve my sketch and line art mashed together. My Letchart, my Sklineart lmaoo

I'm saying I hate lineart, as in I dislike the process of relining my sketches because it takes so much time and I lose motivation because all the effort went into the idea and the sketch. I don't hate art itself, silly billy.
