Description I started this painting as an in-class demo...the demo went well, and I decided to go ahead and finish it It's Ohula Hela, whom I have painted before, a few months ago.

This one I did intend to be very flat, and I've kind of grudgingly accepted that that's where my style is taking me these days. :/ Maybe I'll start painting a painterly painting just to try and break out of this trend.

Warning: mild side-boob.

This is really nice. I'm a sucker for flat shapes. I think you should stick with them.

Really? hmm.. I remember your work was really interesting to me because of the flat shapes...in a way you were a big influence on me!

Awesome. I'm flattered. Haha.
Did you change your hair color? Because I thought I saw you in the business building and your hair was a different color. It looked nice.

Thanks! Yeah, I've been blonde since fall. I think it made me a little dumber, but it's a good tradeoff

Obligatory comment from me as a man: Woo! side-boob!

On a more artistic note I do like these "line-less" works of yours, where only the colour areas create the lines and contours, but I do understand your frustration-like feeling towards going flat,
I think I have the same problem when it comes to making realistic proportions and anatomy at all..

You've taken two of my least favourite colours and pieced them together very nicely. I love her costume as well. The swirls in her hair are a nice touch.

Hehe, glad you like.. it's my opinion that even pea soup green can look all right in certain contexts

I love the color combinations for her outfit. Very elegant, she looks like a goddess!

Oooh. Sexy. I -like- the flatness. You have a lot of line style that would be lost in this image if it weren't flat - which would be a shame because it's awesome.

Sorry, crap comments alert. I just accidentally typed a vast essay on art and now I need to sleep because my brain's turned to art-mush.

Ah. Art crap. Learning to 'see' and stuff... on Tazlure. I don't know why I ended up typing it all.... but it resulted in TWO more essay posts at Tazlure today (although one of them was about something completely different and in the Seminar). I think I talk too much. Probably do.

I've been reading! She seems very cool, already! Loved her diarie, btw. Haha!

You are still more than welcome to join me at the Temple, if you like. I've still not quite reached it yet. Stopped to rubberneck a crime scene, woo. XD

You wrote one hell of an article. And you quoted me O_O I was like "hey, this sounds vaguely familiar"

I'll see if I can weasel her way into the scene, right after I name the puppy. I'm not sure what he's going to be called yet.

Yeah, my fingers got carried away with me. I guess that's the best way I have of organising my own thoughts! The only real consolation is, I only rarely type ginormous essays like that - so the world only has to suffer them occasionally! XD

And yeah, I did quote you! Mainly because what you had to say in that journal was so awesome, I think it deserves to be shared. Struck a chord with me. Do you mind? I can always edit it out if you mind!

I would offer suggestions for puppy names, except I don't wanna interfere. XD

I don't mind in the slightest, and if you have any puppy names please do suggest some, I'm totally stumped.

flatness lends itself to the old master's way, ms. li. this is mildly egyptian in nature and yet very modern.

however, this reversion to basic, flattened shapes is not unbecoming of you. i rather like it.

Even though I understand you intended for this one to be flat, I still almost wish you had put some lighter values somewhere in there.

Otherwise it looks really nice.

I had all these highlights...sort of building up flat shapes on the skin, but it looked terrible so I painted over it. I'd approach this differently if I had to do it again.
