Description
I apologise for the hugeness of this file! This isn't really a "tutorial" per se but it's the process by which I do a big piece of art...for the sake of time, it's a bit rushed, especially the background. Hence, there are tons of problems with the actual piece itself. HOWEVER! Please to be ignoring these in lieu of the process!
Also do not laugh at my cheesy flames. I seriously have no clue how to paint fire. /sigh One of these days I'm going to get it right. But observation doesn't do me much good, as anything that burns bright enough doesn't last very long and brings the fire marshals down on my apartment building.
(Coe is my draenei priest from WoW.)

Ive been looking at your turorials and they are a massive help. Im terrible at PS and I have to get better at it or otherwise Im going to fail my year at Uni but i notice that (or i think you do :/ ) draw straight into ps (or do you use the pen tool?) to make your initial lineart? This is the the only thing (for the moment lol) that is stumping me how to get the lineart like yours (so to speak)... and how do you fiddle with the base colours? sorry for so many questions but you are such a huge inspiratioe and you could be saving my skin career wise

I do draw straight into PS. I have a wacom intuos tablet. The pen tool is awful But a lot of pros scan in their pen drawings and paint over or under those.
You can fiddle with the base colors in two ways - color balance, and hue/saturation. both are under the adjustments menu. Hue/saturation lets you change ALL the colors, so you can play around with that and see where it takes you; it also lets you pull the saturation up or down, and increase the lightness or darkness (though Levels is better for that). Color Balance lets you increase the amount of a certain color in your piece. For example if a piece has too much blue, you can increase the red or yellow to balance it out. Generally, for quick editing the colors, I use Color Balance.

aaaaaaaaaaah yeah, that's knocked a few skeletons to life thank you very much! and yeah i agree, the pen tool is bloomin' awful :/ wow a wacom intuos *drools* arent they expensive? where could i get one cheap? and as for your tutorials, could i ask, would it work if i were to scan in a pencil drawing, would it have the same principle? like to just layer the colour over the pencil drawing and develope it more? thank you so much for your help

I'm actually not sure how much they are! I got mine as a gift five years ago. It's the gift that keeps giving If you're a student, you might be able to get a student discount on one. Mine's quite small, the smallest size they have, so I doubt it was very expensive.
If you're scanning, I recommend putting your line layer on the top, set on "multiply", and just painting underneath it.

i hope you remember me, but if you don't, it's emerena, from TB... the one who dissapeared into college. and who is now taking some time off. where are you playing now? i miss SG, but i hear it's fallen apart.

EM!!! We miss you...SG fell apart, and I started the Seven Deadly Sins about 6 months ago or so...the tavern's still going, although not exactly strong. Red transferred servers, but most everyone else is still there. Wool's leading the guild now.
Coe (my shadow priest) is around 42 and Holo's half a level from 70

Wow, holo? 70? em's still back at 36-37 ish... i'll have to come say hi, at least.
is asph still around? what about dre, din, avi? oh gosh, it's been so long... i don't even remember who else was around... i'm sure i'll remember with some memory joggers. wait.. i'm totally awake... -scurries off to computer-

I've only been playing a month, so my highest is a level 35 (almost 36) Human Paladin and I have a level.... 14 NightElf Hunter.
Yes, I am Alliance for now... but I will make a Horde eventually.

You got to 35 in a MONTH?
I guess it's possible but it takes me ages to get characters up...
I play alliance too, I don't know why but I just can't play Horde. I think it's the people...they seem mostly younger types who are more interested in competition.

Maybe my server has higher exp? o.O Or maybe I'm just lucky.... I did lots of quests! I recently finished the Missing Diplomat one.
I also joined a guild that had been around for awhile and got promoted to Officer within a week and a half because I helped people with quests and gave a ton of loot I found to the bank toon.
And yeah... I've neglected playing Horde because I don't want to be associated with the asshats who come over to westfall to camp the Griffin NPC and kill anyone passing by. I look forward to when I'm high level enough to go to those areas and kill them for it.
But, to my server's credit... I've had plenty of instances where I goofed around with and even semi-teamed up with or tanked some Horde. I'm a pretty passive player, and don't bother anyone unless they attack me first or target lowbies and I'm big enough to kick their ass.
