Description
Welcome to the Lowe Hotel in historical downtown Point Pleasant, WV on the corner of 4th and Main. The Lowe Hotel as you see it in this image was constructed in 1901 and owned by the Smith Brothers, it was later purchased in 1929 after the stock market crash by the Lowe family, hence its name. It was again purchased by its current owners, the Finleys in 1990 and adds a touch of the past with modern convienances.I hope that you enjoy this image, for while it is a historic building, I had to do some work to make it look as historic as it is through the removal of power lines and quite a few window air conditioners that will mar the face of any structure.

Love the severity of the building versus sky. On a purely technical level, it's great. Even ignoring that, I love it. It catches your eye and keeps you looking.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a meaningful comment. Originally I confess that this beautiful old building was cast against a bland, boring, blue sky, thus it had a little help becoming what it is, it is truly amazing what changing a sky and changing the saturation can do for the feel of an image.
If you're interested I've done several other images like this one featuring the WV State Capitol building and another historical building: [link] [link] [link] [link] and [link]

I like the angle you took it from, much better than just a front of the building shot. It reminds me of the Will Rogers Hotel in Claremore, OK which was refurbished about ten years ago and is now an assisted living apartment building for seniors. The preserved all of the original architecture and decor and give tours.

Thank you, I love this particular angle when photographing buildings of this nature, it gives them more personality and depth. You can definately tell they've done some work on it though, I went to their website to get the information and the bottom half of the first two windows is actually part of the main door. Its interesting what you said, I've not heard of converting an old hotel in that particular way and its great that they were able to preserve its originality.
