D³SCR!PTION

The meaning of the pic is to show the kind of path we're all going. On the left side we have the oldish, familiar looking environments. While on the right we have the monstrous huge futuristic city that seems to literally eat the people, their lives and lets them appear soooo small that they almost don't count anymore. The old bridge is a kinda symbole to show that both parts are still connected and that only you alone decide to take that walk into the future or not.

On the other hand... it's just a cool sci-fi based artwork.

TECHN!CAL DETA!LS

First of all i want to tell those super critique folks that this pic is far from perfect, i know that. There's, once again, lots of experimental stuff in it. It's very different to the stuff i ever did before. Basically it's a very big huge mo0onster photo manipulation. You ask yourself why it's call matte 'ainting' then. That's what i ask myself too sometimes lol. But it's true. In some ways it is a painting. In others not. Since you work with a tablet and pen... you first block in all the stuff you want to have in your pic. That's the painting part. Once you nailed down the composition and main elements, you move into the manip part and the painting work takes a step back. Once the manip part is done, you move into painting again to add detail where it's necessary. Todays digital matte painting is a variety of mediums. From usual photos to high detail 3d to excellent paintings... all combined in a single pic.

digital matte painting, wacom, photoshop, 40hrs, 3500px wide, 300dpi, 110mb psd

It's possible that someone already asked this, but why are there mountains in the background?

Otherwise, it's amazing. I first saw a small thumbnail of this somewhere and I was blown away even at that small size. Now that I finally get to look at the entire thing, it's even more amazing. Well, other than I can't quite figure out why the mountains are there. Perhaps in the future, they move the bridge so it wouldn't erode next to the ocean. They wanted to preserve it, so they sent it over to this spanning metropolis where probably one of the insanely wealthy men that owns one of those huge buildings purchased it because his great (x6) grandfather worked on the bridge... or something like that.

Really, amazing job.

i guess i added the mountains to suggest some sort of scale/depth to the whole scene.

This picture almost makes me sad. I knew exactly what you were trying to get across in this picture when I saw it, and then I read the description and it matched what i thought perfectly. The future is just a scary thing to think about...great work, awesome message, awesome picture...just scary lol.

hi looks good, but you need to work on blending the background to the forground pic. use a harder brush and get right close to the branches etc

everything is reall nice, although ur perspective is completely wrong (between the bridge and the road, you have two horizon lines) not trying to be mean its just it detracts from the believablily. nice work on the color and buildings tho
