This an AU story that ties into my previous comics and will most likely be very different from future canonical events.

So, a magical maiden sinks into despair, becomes the 'witch of the Emerald forest' and creates a labyrinth...(TotallyNotAMadokaFanGirl)
Oof... RIP birb mom. ;w ; You were one of my favorites. Sadly, she painted a target on her back just by being the spring maiden. But what was her promise to Taiyang about? Well, the talk they had back in volume 6 did not go well but it got Raven thinking about her actions in the past. She was going to change the way her tribe operates. for starters, they would only loot villages that had already been abandoned.
Winter is still alive btw.
Will we ever see Mercury and Hazel again?
Phew! Finally this is done. I had to rewrite the entire first half of the story, which is why part 2 took so long to produce. My original idea was to give you a short "pictures&exposition" type of recap of volumes 6, 7,8 and 9 before the actual comic began. It would've been dull as hecc, so we jump right into action with a few flashbacks here and there.
If you have any questions regarding the kingdoms or fates of specific characters, I'll be more than happy to answer them.
Note that if it's something that will be explained in great detail later in this comic, my answer will be vague.

Like I mentioned, there was supposed to be a recap explaining all the crucial plot points before vol.9. but I got bored drawing it. It didn't have a natural flow.
Some of those scenes and more will be discussed and perhaps shown briefly in the next few parts.
I'm trying to keep exposition at a minimum so the story doesn't lose it's momentum but there will be flashbacks and all that good stuff.
Sorry to tell you but this is not a dream. In this AU a Maiden CAN gain the powers of another, as all this power was once inside a single person to begin with. The wizard.
However, since the Maiden powers have now been passed onto several women for centuries, each of them have left their mark...
Emerald isn't as OP as you'd think. She does need a looot of magic for a very specific reason. More on that later.
Pretty sure team RWBY and friends could wipe the floor with her at this point if she was just Fall. Her combat skills are severely lacking.
As for her mental state... In a normal situation, she probably wouldn't have become like this.
I mentioned her fading memories because there's something seriously wrong with her mind. The reason for this will be explained later.
This is a part of my Emerald/Cinder story, so the focus will be on Emerald's journey.
Every villain technically has a story arc but unless I go beyond the season finale (which is where my script ends), a lot of them won't be explored. Mercury, Hazel and two other baddies will have their time to shine at least.
I might also do a few separate shorts featuring those who don't really appear in this comic. But there's still a chance I'll do volume 10, which would be the final volume in this AU.
Oof. But Madoka Magica route is the best kind of route. :^) All that despair fills me with joy.

Good! I'd love to see how things ultimately came to happen.
Oh, okay. I mean, I wasn't hoping or anything; I just threw it out as a possibility. Besides, I think it's better if it wasn't a dream; I've heard many have found that to be cliché. Though now I do know why you were so adamant about this not being the direction RT was going to take RWBY; even if Emerald is the Fall Maiden now in the official release/canon!RWBY, she probably wouldn't go this direction.
But... that's where we get to have fun with this!
Well... I suppose it's possible. I mean, I don't know about you, but it seems the portrayal of the Maiden's full strength and power is kind of inconsistent; at one point, it seems to be they're superheroes, then almost physical goddesses, and the next they just have more than one semblance. Even Qrow's talk in Vol. 4 is kind of hard to place, especially since we don't know if that whole "Maiden Consciousness/Mind" thing is meant to be literal (i.e. Amber and maybe other Maidens will pop up a la another Ozpin) or just metaphorical (like shared memories).

Oh trust me, as a Madoka fanboy, I agree! It's just that a) I think RWBY should do its own thing rather than just try and do the same thing in a different fashion and b) as much as I like Madoka, a factor no one can argue is that it got too dark for some. And it had 12 episodes for the first season. Putting aside the fact that pretty much half the fanbase has all-but-renounced the show after Vol. 3, I feel literally dedicating every following episode to making the characters' lives as hellish as possible would get too dark for some, and others would just get plain tired of it all.
Though, to be fair, considering I've seen Berserk and bits and pieces of Texhnolyze, I'd say that one guy and others like him are being lightweights, and knowing some other fans of RWBY, well... let's just say that "overreacting" and "zealous behavior" tends to be a popular trend in some circles of the FNDM. So, it's best to take those views with a grain of salt.

I'd think that even though she'd know that it would be putting her in danger, had Raven had more of a choice in who got her maiden powers, it would have been Yang. Though, if when it turns out that Salem was lying, and that Cinder can't be brought back, that Emerald would just flat-out go berserk, and start destroying everything.

Very true. Raven was beginning to see that Yang as a more responsible adult than she could ever be.
If she had a choice, Yang would have definitely received her powers.

Emerald would not take that revelation well. She's a ticking time bomb, already done so many horrible things she wouldn't have considered in the past.
To learn all her efforts and evil deeds amount to nothing would be enough to make her snap.

I mean, they don't have to get along fine, they just have to put aside their differences to get rid of the more obvious threat at the moment. Kinda like how the Avengers, the X-Men, and their allies had to deal with working alongside Thanos and Adam Warlock during the fight with Magus in Infinity War (the Marvel Comics version, not the MCU version).

What happened to Nora, Sun, Jacques, Whitley, and Ironwood?
If Emerald used the same grimm glove Cinder used on Amber, would that mean the Emerald is part grimm like Cinder too?
Ruby lost her left eye, Weiss cut her hair, Yang has a scar across her face, one of Blake's cat ears and damaged, Qrow grew out his beard, Oscar merged with Ozpin's soul (or however you want to describe it), no clue what happened to Tai and Zwei, and Penny is alive an upgraded to the highest and greatest tech in Atlas history. Crazy shit happen for so long, between volumes five chapter fourteen to volume nine chapter ten that that us, the audience, need to be made aware of before a raging storm arrives.

once the current state of all kingdoms is fully revealed.
Some things I can tell you right away though:
The three Schnee kids are now 100% orphans and SDC is no more. ( Klein is still kicking, so they still have a father figure )
So yes, Whitley is also alive, still unable to fight well enough to join our heroes though.
Sun fought alongside team RWBY and friends in Mistral and Vacuo, but grew worried for his teammates and headed to Mistral to look for them. (The entire continent is a chaotic mess and finding the last remaining huntsmen won't be easy...)
Yes, Emerald was using Salem's methods to gain the powers so she's definitely part grimm. She had Salem's symbols on both of her gloves but now they're gone. She also has two tattoos on her back. We simply can't see those as her glorious spaghetti hair covers them.
Tai and Zwei are safe and home for now. Aside from Beacon, the kingdom of Vale is one of the safest places in Remnant right now.
Penny is back, kind of. More on that later. Her body is indeed more durable and easier to repair this time around. Dr. Polendina has done a remarkable job, although he has taken inspiration *cough* stolen
some ideas *cough* from a certain "doctor" in the past....
Ozpin's and Oscar's souls are still not fully merged but Ozpin is mostly in control of their shared body. Whether or not this will cause problems we'll find out later.
Yang's robo arm is also covered in what used to be her precious motorcycle. Oof.

Thank you for the information. However, since Emerald is now part grimm wouldn't that mean that she, like Cinder, is vulnerable to the power of the silver eyes? Also Ruby has one eye, does that limit her power? Would that mean her silver eye can harm Emerald but not as powerful or is there something else that you are planning to do with them or...?

Emerald is definitely vulnerable to silver eyes but... she's seen the damage first hand and she was also the one
to knock Ruby out the second time in Haven. She knows the trick.
Ruby has learned how to use her silver eyes more effectively during the past volumes but that power was cut in half quite literally.
Having only one eye does make it more difficult for her to use her power. Ruby will have to be smart if she wants to use
her special eye. Sometimes only using her combat skills & semblance might be a better option for her.
We'll see what happens. Ruby successfully activating her silver eye would not be an instant victory though.

Awesome comic, though I doubt Cinder is dead, or that Emerald would get her powers. I mean, all Cinder seems to think about is herself, at least in my opinion.
But let´s just hope one of my OCs, Sophie Weber, never learns of the relics. She´s about as subtle as a fire tornado when it comes to expressing her anger, and there´s two things that really get her very angry very fast: People standing in her way, and Grimm.
If she found out about the relics and what they´re capable of, she´d definitely set out to find them, in order to bring her family and friends back to life.
Her semblance makes it rather easy for her, too, as she can add people to her hive-mind and then they get flooded with her memories and feelings, making it very easy for her to manipulate those in her hive-mind.
She´d either seek out and kill each Maiden, or force them to join her hive-mind. Then she´d force her way to each of the relics and bring the people of her home village back to life.
And don´t think she wouldn´t be able to do it. Ozpin himself stated that, if all else fails, he´d tell Sophie about Salem and let her deal with it. Either Sophie kills Salem or the other way around, but at the end of it the total Grimm population would be down to 1% of where it currently is. The reason for this is Sophie´s swarm, or hive-mind. Scientists, soldiers, a wide variety of animals and insects, all work together to fight Grimm. Not just the regular way, but by sharing vital information and brain power among each other. Take any army, and now imagine that every soldier of that army always knew exactly what the others were doing. They´d be nigh-unstoppable.

What is your opinion on the tattoos that appear? It seems Emerald only got one for using the glove but not when inheriting Cinder's power? I always thought there'd be a different tattoo for each maiden power that form a broader picture if all together.

Since we haven't really seen any other Maidens with tattoos, I would assume it has to do with how the power was obtained.
At least in this AU, the tattoo is a result of using the tiny Grimm to steal the powers. Kinda like a curse mark that seals both the power and the Grimm inside that person.
Emerald used the glove twice, so she should have two tattoos now. We just can't see the other one because of her luscious green spaghetti hair.
