i dunno why theyre doing it, but theyre doing it. and eclipse being so clunky and hard to use and stuff makes people not want to use it.
not a single person has said they enjoy it and everyone is saying its a bad decision. but the staff is still going to force it on everyone, so everyones mad. i think theyre rightfully angry

Assuming you haven't seen the new announcement. While yes, you can turn it off right now, in about a month, DA said they'd fully implement it in, meaning everyone will be stuck with it

I been using DA & Instagram for almost 2 years now. & i starting using Twitter cuz why not? & i been really enjoying using twitter. Got a good followers there and a lot of retweets as well!
i was also thinking to start up a Ko-fi as well but not just yet. (Just want to wait until the right time)
I use Instagram as well but GOD THE ALGORITHM SUCKS SO MUCH. (Come on insta! Its not that hard to fix that algorithm!)
Its kinda the same with DA as well..
I was thinking setting up tumblr so i can get famous easy here but there WAY to many toxic people there.. and they don't even understand how colour theory works.. :/

I can see a section I reckon is for original writing, other media > original works, but people still use the tag on fanfics, so it's a bit confusing.
You can apparently upload (or at least embed) art, videos and podcasts into stories there, which is a pretty nice looking feature.

Ao3 has a huge hive of original works and doesn't strictly cater to just fanfiction writers. I subscribed to one author who has an entire line of stories, all original and wasn't hard to find. archiveofourown.org/series/193…
I haven't seen any fanfiction with original works as a tag, so I am not sure if this is a common problem or not.

They look like they're in the tag I was looking at. So I guess that's the one. I think people are using it for stories about original characters still set in fanfiction universes or something to that effect.
There looks like there's another tag called no-fandom. So maybe you're supposed to tag original work with both of them.
I'm kind of getting the impression you can just make up your own tags anyway.
... though they apparently have tag wranglers to police them.

Gosh I didn't think about that. DeviantArt was so good about allowing that on here too. AO3 is really nice but dA had its benefits and it's easier to get your work noticed.

I wouldn’t discourage you from using AO3, though! It’s actually very alive and active right now. Although I’m unsure how well original works get noticed because I’ve only ever published fanfiction.

I agree with that sentiment, I'm hesitant to move over there as I'm uncertain how visible original works are.
I do create some fanfiction however and that can easily cross over, just I'm focused on my pet project right now, and I doubt that I will be as easily found by my target audience.
A quick look at the tags on my work will show I have particular tastes.

Getting noticed on Ao3 isn't hard at all! Even for someone like me who is more underground and never was a BNF (big named fan) I got noticed very easily on Ao3. The attention I've garnered on there is far better than I have anywhere else, and it's earned me a fairly decent, loyal reader base. Truthfully, I don't think anything else can outdo Ao3 in terms of publication for writers at this time.

You have a point! I think what I was trying to say is that DevianrArt has a lot of groups you can share your writing in. I admit I was surprised at the attention my stuff got on AO3 after a day or so publishing it. If there are groups on AO3 then that’d be cool.

Not really, aside from AO3 I don't know of any other site that hosts original literature.
EDIT: Thinking about it, I'd say Tumblr might be a place to go, but I hesitate to choose that as anything less than a last resort due to Tumblr's political side which can be worse than Twitter at times and the semi-recent controversy.
For those who specialize, there's always a home for you on Reddit, there might even be an OC literature subreddit.
And if your really desperate and fall into making creepypastas or fetish material, then 4chan has a potential home for ya.

wattpad is a decent place for writing, its focus is a lot broader than A03/FF.net

Wattpad is not very userfriendly, difficult to navigate, and even harder to find specific fandoms with works related to it. I considered at one time cross-posting my works to it, got to the site, immediately couldn't find where to go, how to find the fandoms I was interested in, much less how to load anything and instantly noped out. I can't say Wattpad is a good alternative for writers.

Thank you for this. I will likely be one of those leaving DA because of Eclipse. I cannot use it as it causes me migraines, and I've been searching for some alternative to it. So far, I have a twitter, but I really don't know how to use it. Most of the advice I've seen for it is not geared towards art. Do you have any advice on how to get any sort of following there? I will definitely be looking at these other places you've talked about, as I do not recognize a few here. Thank you so much!

Have you had a go with the green eclipse theme? The light & dark themes are pretty stark, but green theme is the old colour pallet. It might give you less trouble, unless something else about it causes the migraines.

I tried the green theme,it's easier to look at, but it doesn't help. It's a combination of the font and the proximity of the images to each other. My eyes don't know where to focus, and end up darting around the screen, causing something akin to a strobe effect, which gives me migraines.
