For people with groups/ARPGs, basiliskstew.com/forum/ has opened early - it's a forum format with individual groups with calendars and game functions, and we're gearing towards an adoptable community with upcoming features like easy generating masterlists (similar to the one we use for bigcity.life/ ACBC). We currently aren't hosting images but have all the -community- aspects that you could want, including a forum-based virtual currency to encourage activity from users.
For people looking at this kind of direction there's lots of free image hosts out there - like Cloudinary's free plan for instance - that allow you to put your art up wherever you want.

Are Group pages being deleted all together once Eclipse comes around? They've never really stated if they're going to be here or not and I wanted to be prepared regardless since I own a Group and literally just purchased Super Group last week lmao.

Honestly no idea. They've mentioned it previously, but not recently, and groups are one of those pages that has never been updated even if you're on Eclipse mode . . . It just shows the old / current version of groups. So I've got a couple of groups here but uh, I've got my site open and moved my stuff there because honestly I don't trust them to work even if they do try to keep them.

Yeah. That and another person I know tried to purchase super group after this announcement was made and they were met with a ""Processor Error. Order cannot be placed at this time, please try again later""
I'm not really sure if that was just like a glitch on their end or if dA actually prevents you from buying super group now. Which if it's the latter then yeah it looks like they would delete all group pages or make them not work. Wish they could be more clear on this because Groups are such a big part of dA.

I agree. It's also pretty shady not to come out clearly and say anything about it, though that's another part of my reason for moving the main part of my group off-site. Like, I don't like being bullied into changes no one wants, and it's kinda junk not knowing what's gonna happen to features you like, especially when they've taken money for those features. :/ If they knew that it was going away or even changing dramatically they should have stopped until changes were announced so people would know what they were getting!

I reached out to their help desk and got confirmation that dA Groups will still be here once Eclipse hits. That they'll have their own separate update in the future and an announcement will be made when their plans are ready to be discussed.

No offense, but I don't really want to be on a site that doesn't at least consider criticism. The entire layout of Eclipse makes me upset. They got rid of so many important features, there's no point in staying (for me anyway)

yea, I signed the petition and i'm joining the sound of silence. I don't think people should leave until we see the results of the protests. but if they refuse to listen then i'll probably leave. and it's just ugly, I just feel like eclipse just looks gross. I love pastel colors, so the page customization that old DeviantArt has is amazing! but this takes away that, and the liking comments thing is stupid to me. I just don't like the look or navigation of eclipse. it's not that I don't understand it, I just think it's ugly

I know it isn't for everyone, but YouTube has actually provided me with a better platform than deviantArt ever was. It's more video-oriented, of course, and it's obviously got its fair share of problems... But I also grew more on YouTube than I ever did dA. YouTube's been my pride and joy, while my dA account has kind of died.

I mean, i am looking for inspiration on a topic, i type in some tags, i'm scrolling through the pics.. i finally find something i wanted to see, i click on it, click "browse more like this" and yeaah TONS of things i wanted to see.

Any suggestions for those who like HARPG groups and are in the process of building a wild horse "RPG" on dA? I don't see a lot of mention of groups for any of the sites recommended, so I'm curious :>

We're currently working on a site that groups are free to move to over on Basilisk Stew - it's currently mostly forum, but we have individual groups with calendars and functions like dice and number generator. We opened early sans the front site to give people running games and adopts a place to congregate. :3 basiliskstew.com/forum
Unfortunately our image hosting isn't up yet although you can use things like imgur, cloudinary, amazon's free option, etc.

My main frustration with forums is that everything becomes very sequestered and cluttered. I'd rather see something easy to navigate--like groups can be if set up appropriately--than have a giant list of forums that I cannot hide. The dice and number generator would be handy, definitely.
How much space are you considering for image hosting? I'm commissioning several items/achievement badges for use in the game, so the ability to display them would be great.

If you have a look at ours, they actually are easy to navigate - and we try to keep our main forums tidy. Groups are like individual forums / areas, but they're each sequestered off with a banner, like you might see browsing groups. basiliskstew.com/forum/groups/… Is our current adoptable group listing, for instance. We're trying very hard to keep everything from becoming a total mess because believe me, I know that frustration. I love the functionality of forums because you can easily organize text information, but I dislike the whole . . .
Well, being overwhelmed, thing. TOO MUCH. This site is being developed by people who have been into adopts / breedables / art galleries since ~2003 though, so we are trying very hard to make it as usable as possible.
Not sure yet! Mostly because we have to see what kind of support we'll have from premium users before we open it; we're also going to have premium options and in that instance would be the order of several (10-20) gigabytes of space, I just don't know what we'll be able to do for free (because I like being transparent and image hosting gets expensive). We have the funds to run the site without hosting for free indefinitely so that's not an issue, but we're easing into the hosting thing so I don't have hard numbers.

unfortunately DA is really the only site ive come across with the group function that allows RPGs to flurish!
Tumblr and a website for all the game lore along side a discord to keep an active community would most likely be your next best bet though

That's what I've seen as well, unfortunately. I considered Tumblr and Discord, but the lack of customization for Discord and inability to do "rolls" to continue someone's story makes Tumblr difficult, but I'm hoping since DA hasn't made huge changes to groups things will stay relatively the same. Either way, it won't hurt to set an alternative up just in case.

Have you tried Pixiv? It's kinda like the Japanese equivalent of DA.
The Cons is that because it's Japanese made so there's gonna be a bit of a language barrier thing and there's R-18 art.

You can easily get around the problem when you put a work on favourite.
When you'll scroll down the work page , you can see other illustrations of the same type, hastag with amazing quality

Pixiv is perfect for manga / comic style with twitter, instagram, artstation and toyhouse.
Many of these sites that tigeus has said are only for furry and anthro works.
for those who draw manga comics, or adopts, they are not sufficiently valid sites.
