(She is home-schooled by her parents and has been ever since she was 5. Her only friend is her co-worker Angie. She doesn’t really know anyone and she is and has been kept on Angel Island with only her family to talk to. Once in a while a family friend such as Sonic the Hedgehog will come visit but they mostly talk to her parents.)

(Knuckles used to get most of his food from a small farm he took care of on Angel Island, but when he married Tikal they each got part time jobs to support the family and they live off the money they make from that, which isn’t a whole lot, but is enough. Ruby uses the small amount of money she earns from her part-time job to buy stuff for herself and sometimes gives some to her parents.)

In some ways, Ruby is a typical teenage girl, but she is also strong willed and determined. However, you can’t teach her life lessons by lecturing; the only way this girl learns is the hard way. Ruby is also loyal and is determined to protect those she loves from danger.

-Historical biography: Ruby was born the second child of Knuckles and Tikal the Echidnas. Ruby was chosen long, long, ago by the Master Emerald to be able to bond with it in a time of crisis so the Emerald can speak and use its powers in a bodily form. The number of echidnas that could do this was rare, and it was even rarer that they survived the bonding. Ruby is one of the ones who could survive the bonding, which shows that she is very special. Ruby was raised by her parents to be a pacifist and to only fight to protect the Master Emerald. They told her that the Emerald was too powerful to get into the wrong hands, and that it is the duty of an echidna to protect it and guard it all the time. Ruby began to resent guarding the Emerald once she realized that she would have to do it her whole life, and could not live any dreams she might have had or go to college. She also learned that she would someday have to marry her brother Em, and she began to resent that too, as Em actually liked guarding the Emerald and listening to his parents. Ruby was kept on Angel Island, barred from the world for much of the time, except when Tikal or Knuckles took her out to someplace once in a while. She was home-schooled too and only got her first taste of the real world when she became old enough to go out on her own. She would go out for longer than her curfew, because she enjoyed it so much. Knuckles had Angel Island parked on a hill in a meadow outside Station Square for about 5 years. It was on one of her outings by herself that Ruby discovered the Station Square Burger Shop, and a sweet human girl named Angie who worked there. She begged her parents to let her get a job there, and they finally consented. One day, the Emerald spoke to Ruby, telling her that a danger was coming and that she must protect the Emerald. The Emerald also said that she was a chosen one, but would not tell her any more about it. Then, a small army of strange black echidna warriors abducted her family except Ruby, who had shrunken and saved the Master Emerald. Ruby, along with her friend Angie for most of the time, saved her family and found out that the black echidnas were the anger of Tikal’s ancient tribe, who were sealed in the Master Emerald along with Chaos. Ruby bonded with the Emerald and Emerald Ruby converted the anger to love and sent them back to the past. Ruby now knows the importance of protecting the Master Emerald, and is more comfortable with the fact that she’ll always be doing it.

-Personal character analysis/commentary: Ruby was the first fan character I ever created, and so that definitely makes her special. The only other characters I have created at this time are her brother Em and Charma the Butterfly. At first I wasn’t fond of fan characters and thought I’d never create one. But I’ve always loved Knuckles and Tikal as a couple, and I thought that since they are the last echidnas on earth, they would of course want to continue the echidna race. So I created Ruby, their second child first, and then came up with her brother. Slowly, drawing by drawing I developed Ruby’s look and attire. Then I developed her personality, and finally wrote and illustrated a fan fiction starring her. I think that Ruby may appear to people at first to be an ordinary teenager, but once they read her story they find out that she is indeed special. Ruby’s personality is not like mine at all, in fact, none of the characters I have created so far have a personality like mine. I think Ruby is a strong-willed girl who just needs to learn some life lessons the hard way to become a bit wiser.
