So cool! How much would it cost for me to buy some from you?

Love the spiders very cool. Could use one or two of these to freak out some friends at halloween. Although they would probably never talk to me again. But it would have an element of fun. What I really want to know is which Chavant clay do you use. specifically. Please?? I really want to find a clay that isn't sticky and like trying to sculpt with chewing gum.

i've been looking for the clay specs of what kind of Chavant I have. I actually got it from a guy who did car design, I wasn't able to find anything, I just have 7 boxes full of clay (love Craig's list) I know it's a sulfur based clay, not sticky and medium hard. I think you can actually write chavant and get a set of samples, that's the best way of choosing your clay. (sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I was trying to find the info)

lol was beginning to wonder. I got the one that said medium hard and it is nasty. Le Beau Touche thought it sounded ok but it is sticky as it can be. The kleen klay I had was better than that and I thought it was too soft and sticky. ugh.... I suppose I'll try some of the stuff that is listed as hard. I was just hoping you could tell me which one you used. Thanks for trying anyway. I didn't mean to be a bother.

aaw!But I heard that they are not all that dangerous if you hold them in a right way and don't breath their mmh hair, becouse it does some damage to our lungs O.o

May I have one for a pet?
Seriously, they look really realistically great ^^
Oh, and a small tech question...from experience: Ultracal 30 vs. dental stone moulds (I haven't tried Ultracal 30 yet, so curious).

TimBakerFX In reply to Maylar [2011-03-26 06:31:50 +0000 UTC]
Well, it depends on what kind of dental stone but usually they are harder, set faster and are more expensive than Ultracal 30. Not bad stones by any means. Some artists prefer stone to Ultracal 30, I like Ultracal, it's easy for me to find and I know it's moods

Price precisely pushes me into Ultracal 30 direction...I used only type 4 dental stone so far and it costs an arm and a leg. I guess I'll have to learn those moods, pronto

I do love the way ultracal 30 handles, it's was Dick Smith's choice (my teacher) he used it for all the molds on the Exorcist, Little Big Man, Godfather... he knew his stuff

Haha, he most certainly did, judging by the results ^^
And I'm definitely going to try Ulatracal 30 for my next mold

Neat!! I want some, to throw at random, annoying people in bars. I used to work at a zoo; I have held a tarantula in my hand, and they are quite docile..but it'd still be fun to freak people out.
Great job; these look quite real!!

You are such a big inspiration! I'm actually making a Fly in Chavant clay at the moment, to use in a horror movie. The fly going to be in stop-motion acting wit live-action!
And seeing this makes me think that it actually might look okay when I have made the final painting and things
Great work!

thank you very much I find that every sculpt I've done goes thru a "ugly" period, where you're sure you just can't make it, but then as I keep going and fixing things it usually turns out ok
best of luck with your stop animation, don't forget to post pics when you're done

yea, same here. the funny thing is, when you do things like this and stop motion puppets, the sculpted version ain't even close to what it will look like later on.
Yea, I will but I will probbobly put it at my other deviant acount. but I will tell you about it

which is amazing. I know what its like to do a piece in a day. I had to make a Rat mask for the Nutcracker Suite Ballet for the "Anaheim Ballet School". Talking about last minute. Glad we can do this work or our clients would be SOL lol.

Lol. That's how I feel when I get into making some REAL art, like painting or ceramics. But it's all worth it in the end.
