This is a foam latex and polyfoam makeup on actress Dawn Westlake to make her look like a statue that can talk. It was really strange how she stopped looking alive the moment I covered up her eyes.Related content

it's a foam latex prosthetic... I did the close eyed sculpt on her face cast and ran foam latex. The effect was really great at the time.

I'm late to the party (=\) but how'd you design the makeup? I'm trying to figure that out and I'm drawing a blank, but it's amazing.

I did a head cast of the actress, then sculpted the cowl and hair. I cast that in latex and polyfoam. I did a "open eye" sculpt over her real eyes and cast that in foam latex. That way it she had a sculptures eyes.

What sort of performance was this for? I imagine it must not have been very movement intensive, if she couldn't see!

This was an effects shot for a film (The Confession) ... in the scene a guy walks down a church aisle past a statue of the virgin mary... we cut to a close-up of the sculpture's face and she smiles. I had to match the makeup to the statue so it looked like the same piece.
