problematic 16 year old trans!Kato...because why not.

I've dabbled with the concept of Kato being FtM before and I'll copy/paste some of my patreon ramble from then:

Kato's cis, right?? like. he's been cis. He was a fuckin cis horse in elementary school and he's a cis guy now
but I've considered making him a trans guy in the past and even tho i'm not planning on it now--if only because it would fuck too much with established canon--it feels like though he isn't trans, I may have subconsciously been writing him as a trans character despite his cis-ness. There's just a bunch of little indicators: The disconnect from his birth name, his tendency towards baseless body image issues...Stereotypically "female" trauma but stereotypically "male" reactions to it...for the most part. idk.

it's really the amount of fuckin work + retcon i'd have to do that's keeping me from making it canon but i love the trans!Kato AU and i'm almost certain i'll end up exploring it more. I love the concept of this fighty asshole having his one (1) friend in high school who actually asks questions and doesn't bat an eye when saying "dude for what it's worth. it sounds like you might be trans. like...should i switch the pronouns i use?" and starts gendering him correctly

i feel like he'd be even more aggro bc he'd constantly be trying to "prove his masculinity" in the worst ways
and when drawing this I just kept thinking about how it would feed into his whole...shit with his school. The opportunity to taint the identity he was assigned at birth. Not being able to kill or die as himself, but being able to turn the girl he was forced to be into a murderer; being able to make his birth name as bitter in everyone else's mouth as it was in his own.
