Description
What the fashionable geek wears under her Victorian ensemble. My new corset, which matches my bustle. To answer any questions I used a steel busk and steel boning in the front and back, spiral steel on the sides. The fashion fabric is a cotton from Spoonflower while the lining is corset coutil.
Corset pattern is Truly Victorian TV110 which is hands down the best corset pattern I have ever worked with. Can't rave about it enough.
Oh, in case you hadn't guessed, I may like historical patterns and silhouettes but that doesn't mean I won't have fun with them. Besides, who is going to see my undies underneath that big bustle gown.

I know. It's pretty awesome to wear too.
First corset I've managed to wear for 14 hrs at a 4 inch reduction and not only was I not restricted in movement at all, but didn't feel sore at all the next morning.

This fabric, along with many others, is available at www.spoonflower.com. It is a company that custom prints fabric on demand. If you go to their site you will find dozens of wonderful fabrics for Doctor Who and many other fandoms. You can even design and print your own fabric. They aren't cheap though. I order from them a lot to make items for my etsy shop.

Spoonflower has a tendency to do that. I'm not sure if I should apologize or not.

It takes a bit of practice, but that's what a mockup is for. I highly recommend the Truly Victorian pattern. I've made quite a few corsets over the years and this pattern is the BEST one I've ever worked with. It is so comfortable and the mockup needed hardly any tweaking. Just take your time, make really good measurements and a mockup for fitting before you start using your fashion fabrics.
If you are lucky enough to live in a major city with a Costumers Guild, you may find some folks with more experience that can help with the fitting process.

Thank you, dear! I have to. I keep looking through blogs and watching the designers and stitchers I admire and can't help but see how much further I have to go. It keeps me motivated to push myself, learn new things and then share them with my friends.

I had literally just seen this fabric available through spoonflower the other day. Your corset looks very cute! What did you use for boning?

I used a combination of steel bones in the front and back and spiral steel for the sides. Thanks for the compliment! It is a great fabric, but not easy to pattern match due to the size. I also made a bustle if you want to look in my gallery.

Thanks! I agree totally and no one will know as I walk the convention floors that my unmentionables are geeky. *giggle*
Then again, my friends are daring me to dash down the hall in my undies.

Nobody ever said anything about breakfasting in underthings, right? I do believe the convention hotel will have some sort of breakfast in the morning while I'm getting ready and as long as I'm not prancing...

You could get others to join you for breakfast in your undies? It could turn into a convention "thing"
