Description
Otodus Cryptodon
A deep water species of the Otodus shark family, which includes Megalodon. It has not changed since 4 million years ago.It is a generalist feeder, tending towards carrion, but will eat anything it can. Even smaller individuals are on the menu for large O. Cryptodon. Their sense of sight is useless in the benthic regions, so they rely heavily on smell and their lateral line to detect prey. In order to conserve energy, they swim very slowly and lower their metabolism to coma-like states. This secondarily grants them longevity, some individuals living for 100 or so years. Though rare, they will swim up to attack pods of Beaked whales and Sperm whales to snatch a few bites of their calves, these few bites are enough to keep them going for a while. Their main threats nowadays are overfishing of deep waters, climate change, ocean acidification, pollution, and decreasing repopulation rates.

My main incentive for this idea was that I was watching a “Speculative Evolution Iceberg” video on TouYube and this guy was mentioned.
Now no one NEEDS to be told this, but Megalodon is extinct "...and that’s a fact!" What I am attempting here is a thought exercise on what anatomical and physical adaptations would a Megalodon (or in this case close relative) need to survive in the depths of the oceans, as that is how it supposedly escaped its extinction.
In order to not surpass the threshold of energy/nutrition needed to stay alive, O. Cryptodon is smaller than the actual Megalodon. (sta.sh/01tt4k89ma49 )
Taking hints from the greenland sharks, O. Cryptodon keeps its energy spending as low as humanly (er… sharkly?) possible. So these guys aren’t traveling around the world and slaughtering whales. Well they do travel around the world, but it takes them years, even decades to do so.

This one was a bit fanciful, but being inspired by the Lantern Shark and Megamouth Shark, I thought that they could have some kind of Bioluminescent patch on their mouth as a means of attracting prey to their jaws. Ensuring they something WILL enter their jaws once in a while.
