This took me a few days, and is probably the best portrait edit I've done. The hairband, shoulder pads, and brooch are completely original, the rest is composed of heavily edited pieces from portraits from FE 7 and 8.
Didn't do battle sprites... never tried making those.
Anyway! I took a look at the NES portraits one day and just laughed, and decided I had to try making a more up to date version, so we have this.

I know what class marth would be. He would be a Lord since he is the prince of Altea in FE1

This is a pretty good rendition of a GBA Marth. Also don't worry about a class change for Marth (though it should be noted that he needs a certain shield to use the Falchion... it could make a nice upgrade idea.), it looks great.

Hmm, needs shading under the hair. The armor shading doesn't look FE-style, and the gold part of the brooch is undershaded a little... The hair's a bit lacking in shading as well, and his face... just doesn't strike me as very Marthy, really.
It's a nice attempt, though. Props ^^
btw: Marth's class is Lord in both games; he doesn't promote. One Lord class has a skirt, the other has pants like in SSBM. I tend to call the Book 2/SSBM Marth's class "Prince" rather than "Lord".

Thanks for the crit. :3 I was thinking about revising it at some point, so this has good guidelines.
I can add more shading under the hair, but as for the brooch and armor, there's not much I can do due to color limitations (as in, you can only have so many colors per sprite, and I may even have to reduce it...). Still, I'll take it into consideration.
I based this on how Marth is in SSBM, which is the only time I've played a game featuring him... He came across kind of serious in that, so that's why his face is like that. I'm going to leave the face as is, but also add smiling sprites.

Well, the skin tone works for shading the gold part of the brooch, which is what I meant was undershaded. The colors on the armor are fine, it's the style of shading itself I was commenting on. I know about the 15-color limit, since I remake FE3 sprites to GBA format for a remake project. :3
You should play FE3, it's a great game if you know basic Japanese. If not, there's translation patches available, but they're a little buggy. There's ways to get it online, but I'm not supposed to tell people about it >_>

I took apart several of the portraits, then reassembled/recolored/added stuff. It takes time, esp. the face, if you want to make it look original but still stylistically correct.
