Description So, this is it. I've spent perhaps 2 or 3 years on this paper sculpture. On and off. Mainly off (^.^'). But despite my procrastination, I have to say I am fairly proud of the end result. I've also respected my self-imposed challenge, which was to create this sculpture without using anything but paper and glue. From the details to the structure itself, this bird is made out entirely of paper.

Holy shit. I'm assuming it's fairly fragile since it's paper. But did you end up gluing tons of paper together to make it a bit sturdy? Not only do you have patience but a lot of confidence to use paper as the main material @.@

I LOVE IT! ;v;

TinyOmelet In reply to RennyRensaur [2015-07-15 10:53:49 +0000 UTC]

Your reasoning is spot on! The sculpture is fairly fragile in terms of, you know, being crushed or getting ripped apart, but it will resist to being dropped on the ground or perhaps even being thrown on the wall! It's very light, but the glue managed to bring solidity to it. The body and the legs are rock hard. The wings and the tail, with long feathers, are more vulnerable. ^.^ I thank you for your support and interest!

bloedzuigerbloed In reply to ??? [2015-07-15 01:39:15 +0000 UTC]

This is amazing! How did you start it, is it hollow inside?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TinyOmelet In reply to bloedzuigerbloed [2015-07-15 10:47:49 +0000 UTC]

I started with a wing. Completed it entirely, and then I went on to the other wing to ensure proportions. And THEN, I spent months wondering how to proceed from there (haha). With clay and papier machΓ©, I managed to create an egg-shaped structure, which I emptied after it was solidified. So yes, it is hollow inside! ^.^

This is amazingly detailed! I can never make anything 3D with paper, unless I'm drawing a 3D picture, which I can hardly do anyway.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TinyOmelet In reply to Rainbowwave1 [2015-07-14 23:56:53 +0000 UTC]

I also have a tough time drawing a 3D representation of what I see in my mind. For this artwork, I took a different approach : I didn't draw a thing. I progressively added elements, took frequent measurements, and ended up with a convincing 3D result. Try a new approach! Perhaps you, too, will be pleasantly surprised. ^.^ Thank you very much for your comment, I appreciate it greatly!

Oh my, so beautiful, and made entirely out of paper? My question is, how?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TinyOmelet In reply to SkyFire33 [2015-07-14 22:25:16 +0000 UTC]

Heh... A lot of sitting at my desk, trying to find ways to make it work. The structure is hollow. I used some clay, applied papier machΓ© to it, and cut it open after a few days. I removed the clay, and there it was : a structure! Looked like a big poop, but hey, it's hidden now, under roughly 2000 feathers.

this came out 100% beautifully.something like this is very inspirational to many artists. I can see many others following in your footsteps to re-create something just like this. And to make wonderful sculptures of paper. Though you're not the first at this, I do consider you one of the best of paper sculptors. Again this is truly inspirational piece of artwork.

Dear... Batman. I think you managed to truely make me blush, alone in front of my computer. Your comment is particularly comforting. This artwork is the result of a simple hobby. It's heartwarming to know other members of the community consider my work inspirational. Heck, your comment even motivates and inpires me to create other paper sculptures! Many thanks to you.
