Description So, this is it. I've spent perhaps 2 or 3 years on this paper sculpture. On and off. Mainly off (^.^'). But despite my procrastination, I have to say I am fairly proud of the end result. I've also respected my self-imposed challenge, which was to create this sculpture without using anything but paper and glue. From the details to the structure itself, this bird is made out entirely of paper.

Amazingly detailed and painstaking work. I couldn't imagine working on a piece for years, so I really commend your patience. It really paid off! I love how the (relative) simplicity and curve of the beak and claws contrast with the very fine feathers. Out of curiosity, about how big is it?

Thank you so much for your comment! It goes straight to my heart and it feels daaaaaamn good!

The bird's wingspan is about 25 cm (10 inches). Some of the feathers were kind of a pain to manipulate. >.<

That's pretty impressive, and finely detailed Must take a lot of patience and determination.

I tend to let artworks rot and never finish them. But for this one, I told myself right off the bat "Okay bro-" (I refer to myself as a bro, don't ask...) "If you never finish this sculpture... you might as well hate yourself for the rest of your life.". So whenever I felt like my motivation level was dropping, I would get mad at myself and continue my work. Haha!

As for patience, well... I found this artwork almost therapeutic at times. When I would be upset, or tired, or annoyed by something, I could find liberty and peace in this somewhat repetitive, yet dynamic hobby.

And then you decided to just hate yourself for the rest of your life, until later redeciding to just work a little on it every once in a while until it would eventually get done, I get it

What made you create it in the first place?

Heh, your summary is fairly on point. Let's just say it got done, and I don't hate myself so much anymore, haha.

I think it was initially for a friend's baby. Was gonna make a small bird for the little girl's bedroom. But then it turned into a bigger project. But it's okay, no mother's feelings or kid's dreams were hurt in the process - I never told my friend I was starting this project for her daughter. Except... now the Internet knows. SHIIIIIIT!

you're welcome I personally could never do this, I just imagine how easily I would accidentally rip the paper any time I tried, but it's very impressive what you have here

I had no idea how to proceed when I first started either. I suppose it's similar to any craft or activity you attempt on your own : you develop techniques and strategies to achieve goals. I enjoyed the learning process!
