"'...The Sorting Hat takes your choice into account.''Really?'
'It did for me,' said Harry."
--J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
(So, I watched HP7 Part 2 last week. It was fun to watch it in the cinema because most people were either book fans or watched every other HP films (or both), and everyone was laughing and "Aww"'ing at the wrong places. Just to let you know.)
I can understand why almost every Sherlockwarts fanart portrayed Sherlock and Watson in different houses. They're just so different. But if you look at best friends in Harry Potter, they mostly belong to the same house. If Sherlock and Watson in HP universe are in different houses, how are they going to spend time together? And how are they going to share a flat?
So, remember little Harry: "Not Slytherin...not Slytherin..."
(It was a pain choosing a right house for both of them...I thought Gryffindor may be the most...appropriate.)

Well, he shows ignorance to these basic things not because he's stupid, but because he chooses to not know them...
I guess he does manipulates people around him to achieve his goal, but cleverness is definitely the one trait that stands out from all other traits for me.

True, but his complete behaviour screams slytherin to me. I understand that people think he's a ravenclaw because the stereotype of intelligence/knowledge. But before I sorted myself, I realised there was way more to it than the first few things the sorting hat shouts.
Slytherins are mainly resourceful, cunning, ambitious and yes, we also value intelligence, on a different way. Not really the book/study type, but the type you need to 'survive'. so to speak(i.e. breaking the rules....).
Ravenclaws are intelligent, they are often found in libraries. They might not be the most social of them, but when they are, they will tell you all sorts of interesting facts. They do not manipulate or other explosive things unless the risks are very slim.
Gryffindors are brave and chivalrous, sometimes reckless, but they enjoy it. They are also loyal, but not as loyal as Hufflepuffs. They also tend to break the rules purely for enjoyment (weasly twins). Not all of them of course. (this is why I still think Hermoine should at least had a hatstall between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, although I don't remember what pottermore said)
Hufflepuffs are hard working, honest and loyal. These folks will do anything to make sure you're safe. Put it this way, Watson is often placed in either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff.
So to end my conclusion with what I said earlier; Sherlock, nor Watson, belong in just one house. But if I had to choose, I'd say Sherlock in Slytherin and Watson in Gryffindor, even though in my eyes, they are both hybrids. A Slytherclaw (like I am....I know I am) and a Gryffinpuff.

Woah long comment! 00
My roommate also thinks that Sherlock is a Slytherin, and I guess you have a point, considering Hermione was sorted to Gryffindor. I guess Ravenclaws are presumed a little like nerds--good grades, reading/doing work all day and no play, neither social or anti-social. I guess for me, extreme-smart-and-sometimes-weird-but-still-a-Victorian-gentleman-novel!Holmes is more like a Ravenclaw and snappy-I-hate-the-world-BBC!Sherlock does have that proud Slytherin trait in him. BTW I always thought I'd be a Ravenclaw but I'm a Gryffindor and now I put both of them in MY HOUSE MWAHAHAHA
