(So, I watched HP7 Part 2 last week. It was fun to watch it in the cinema because most people were either book fans or watched every other HP films (or both), and everyone was laughing and "Aww"'ing at the wrong places. Just to let you know.)
I can understand why almost every Sherlockwarts fanart portrayed Sherlock and Watson in different houses. They're just so different. But if you look at best friends in Harry Potter, they mostly belong to the same house. If Sherlock and Watson in HP universe are in different houses, how are they going to spend time together? And how are they going to share a flat?
So, remember little Harry: "Not Slytherin...not Slytherin..."
(It was a pain choosing a right house for both of them...I thought Gryffindor may be the most...appropriate.)

ILU! I saw it at midnight and the whole theater was awesome. We were all laughing, and crying, and when the preview for the Taylor Lautner movie came on screen most of the audience booed him, and it was wonderful.
I always have that reaction to Sherlockwarts stuff too. It's weird to think of them as split up like that.

I personally am unsure what Houses I would sort them into, but I think your reasoning makes plenty of sense.

If I were to put them into different houses I would do Ravenclaw and Gryffindor personally...but I can see why some artists chose Slytherin and Hufflepuff

I kinda disagree as a slytherin. Sherlock has shown amazing ignorance to some basic things (LOL SOLARSYSTEM). And he definitely manipulates people all the time to get them to talk...
I classify him more as a Slytherin...but truly, more like myself, a Slytherclaw.
