Description
Yeah, Imma start including the sketches just because the actual pics might take just a little while longer. Cuz I have a job now. XDOf course, I'd like to use the Bestiary series to introduce many kinds of extinct animals! Albeit with a bit of a difference, however fantastical it might be.
----------------------------------------
FACTS:
- Dodos are primarily known as a livestock bird of the Tropical Kingdom. However, they're not from that place at all. They were traded to the Menehune a very long time ago. who proceeded to cultivate them alongside the likes of the Moa.
- Naturally, they lay only one egg at a time. However, Menehune folklore tells of a mother who had sacrificed herself to allow the birds of the Tropical Kingdom to reproduce more frequently, to feed the settling islanders, and avoid extinction.
- This includes the Dodo. Their meat would normally taste quite foul. However, a combination of being fed tropical fruits and unique cooking techniques by the Menehune have made them a staple of the Tropical Kingdom. They've also been bred to have a wide range of different feather colors, as can be seen here. preview.redd.it/1eqkut85mqq51.…
- However, as their popularity across Kingdoms (and egg-laying ability) increased, Dodos traded to other Kingdoms had also begun to escape captivity, becoming feral. And they've shown an incredible amount of adaptability and intelligence, coming into fierce competition with local wildlife.
- They even settle into urban territory! They eat trash like raccoons, they flock and poop like pigeons, fight over meals like seagulls, and aggressively chase people like geese. In other words...they weren't driven to extinction by invasive species! They ARE the invasive species! So much so that many cities have patrolmen with hunting dogs to drive them out of people's property.
- Even then, dogs have trouble handling them, because either they're too fast, or too likely to gang up on the poor dog all at once.
- Most ironically enough...they don't act like this on the Tropical Kingdom. Hence, the Menehune still have a favorable opinion of them.
----------------------------------------
Indeed....it's almost as if they've taken revenge for their extinction by alternate universe proxy.
Just like any raccoon, it's best to respect their space--even if they don't entirely respect yours.
