There was a time when Jaru-sensei had taken on Muscular.

And almost won.

Because contrary to what the anime may have you believe, Muscular did very much have his weaknesses. And it was just lucky that a certain smartie dinosaur sponge managed to exploit some of them.

1) He is easily tricked by those who challenge his strength.

Jaru-sensei did not consider himself a licensed hero by any sense of the word. Merely a schoolteacher for Elementary school students who needed it most. But he knew of Water Hose--the parents of Kota Izumi. And he knew of the horrible demise those two suffered at the hands of Muscular.

With his eye freshly gouged out, a new scar to his name, and a village saved from him, Muscular would have called their murder a job well done. But he had already tasted blood--and he needed just a little more. Why not settle for smaller prey?

Jaru-sensei supposed doing this would get him in trouble wiht the law. But it was all he could do to ensure that the three-year old son of the Water Hose heroes would live another day to go to school...law-breaking or not, this would be worth it.

He knew Muscular was powerful. But also stupid as hell, rating 1/5 on Intelligence.

So he goaded him.

"Trying to pick out small prey, are you? Are you not lion enough to take down something a little bigger, like me? I didn't think so.

Tch...no amount of bloated musculature can mask how legitimately weak you are. YES. That is right! I called YOU weak! Care to prove me wrong?! Or are you going to skitter away, forcing me to tell the world what a pathetic villain Muscular really is?! WELL?! MAKE A DECISION!!!"

2) He struggles against extremely defensive Quirks.

He KNEW Muscular would begin immediately by punching him--thus, his Quirk caused the clever dino-sponge to balloon in size. Every ounce of weight being put into those punches manifested as ACTUAL weight in Jaru-Sensei's body, with Muscular's frenzied efforts to prove him wrong only making him larger. Muscular looked up in dismay as he saw not even a hint of pain in the creature's face! Thus prompting him to grow his muscle fibers even more, groaning as sinews tore, feeling his face flush with blood as he attempted, and failed, to match Jaru-sensei in size. His foe truly WAS as big as a dinosaur.

All as this big, stupid sponge-person laughed at him...he practically forced himself to plant his feet on the ground, sacrificing even his tremendous speed to, dedicate everything to overpowering his enemy.

3) He can overwork his muscles, causing extreme bodily pain. The more muscles he grows all over his body, the worse it is.

Then....Jaru-sensei punctured his arms with his thumb spikes. And proceeded to wrestle him, pressing his colossal weight directly onto him. It was like...trying to lift a giant weight actively trying to push downwards, while a steak knife was cutting his wrist arteries open until it reached bone. The muscles in his entire body hulked out to bear the weight, yet he felt himself gradually starting to seize up. As though he were being turned to stone, under the sheer weight of this green mountain of porous flesh! Each new set of sinews he grew grew tired faster than the last!

Then he saw the police coming in the distance.

At the last minute, he used what little was left of his Quirk to pull him down and run away.

"COWARD!!!"

And yet Muscular got away. Simply because Jaru-sensei's sheer size, his best weapon against Muscular, was the very same force that made him too big and heavy to give chase, while Muscular was able to bolt away.

Yet the villain was now forced to flee. By the time he came back, Kota would be gone. He would never thank the teacher, but he would never have to.
