Description # 306: Aggron
The Iron Armor Pokemon
Steel/Rock

Height: 7-14 ft
Length: 13-22 ft

Weight: 794-1,965 lbs (DOUBLE when Heavy Metal activates)

Sound: A deep, low and resonant roaring or growling that rings out thanks to the metals in its body altering the sound slightly. Also with extremely heavy stomping, and its heavy metallic tail dragging on the ground.

Gender: 50% male, 50% female. Males are more likely to have brighter and more damaged armor, while females are more likely to live in mountains with a brood of Aron and/or Lairon.

They have no mating season because they often become impregnated as a Lairon. Mostly because females will have an incredibly hard time supporting another couple hundred/thousand pounds on her back, so Aggrons almost never mate at this stage of life. Not unless they breed with another Pokemon in their same egg group.

HP: 70
Attack: 110
Defense: 180
Sp. Attack: 60
Sp. Defense: 60
Speed: 50
Total: 530

Effective Moves Against It:
Poison (0x)
Normal (1/4x), Flying (1/4x), Ice (1/2x), Psychic (1/2x), Bug (1/2x), Rock (1/2x), Ghost (1/2x), Dragon (1/2x), Dark (1/2x)
Fighting (4x), Ground (4x), Water (2x)

Location: There is no specific location where Aggron are found, but generally try looking for places with lots of Aron in them, such as the Granite Cave, or Victory Road in Hoenn. But if you catch any sign of the mothers’ presence, leave the mountain as soon as possible.

( A ) General: Aggron is another “big tank” Pokemon that’s relatively difficult to raise, and it takes a long time for its unevolved states to change into. However, unlike many other Pokemon like it, such as Tyranitar, or Hydreigon, it’s not at all as aggressive as them. In some cases, Aggron can be a far more promising and a dependable Pokemon than either of them, if you put enough effort into raising it as an Aron.

That is if you raise it from when it was an Aron. In the meanwhile, wild Aggron can be just as deadly and team-destroying as other wild “tank Pokemon”. That’s because of their habits as a territorial Pokemon, much like Haxorus. It still separates itself from the others by having a unique set of habits, as well as a massive number of resistances and strengths in battle.

Evolution: As a Lairon, it spends a lot of its time tempering its steel hide with a variety of methods. It drinks so much mineral water it bloats, as it later “sweats” through large black spots on its back, which eventually add minerals to its metallic hide. This makes the hide thicker. In the meanwhile, it makes the hide stronger by repeatedly smashing into boulders and other Lairon fighting it for territory. The repeated pressure and heat made from the constant impacts cause its hide to become tempered, making it extremely hard to dent or scratch it by the time it’s almost ready for evolution. Any Lairon will try to do both of these things out of instinct.

Wild and domestic Lairon are generally aggressive at their stage, because they’re currently attempting to mate and find a territory big enough to support a clutch of offspring, by the time they give birth after evolution.

However, upon evolving into an Aggron, the anatomy of the Lairon changes drastically, but they don’t change a lot in terms of its psyche. The sudden burst of minerals and metals being “sweated” and poured onto their skin quickly condense and become extremely thick and durable metal armor, all over its entire body. This armor is defensively second only to Steelix, and makes them incredibly heavy. Because most of it concentrates to their tail, underbelly and back, they become very back heavy, leading to them standing upright from that point on. In the meanwhile, its skull changes its shape, growing three long horns and being covered in metal armor as well. (One could also tell the age of the Aggron by looking its height and the length of its horns. If the Aggron grows huge and has horns almost 5 feet long, it’s most likely about to become 100 years old)

In the meanwhile, its attitude hasn’t changed that much. Unlike other big tank Pokemon, it seems to mellow out after evolution because it has its worries as a Lairon out of the way, and now it simply lives its life regularly. That is, give birth, watch its children, make sure people keep away from its mountain, eat bedrock and iron ore, or if it’s under trainer ownership, simply keep battling. Aside from their brood, Aggron see as having no reason to become any more aggressive upon evolution.

( B ) Territory: As a Lairon, it searches for an entire mountain as its territory. Its reason for doing this is because Aggron actually give birth to many Aron, and the main diet of Aron is its minerals and metal ores found in mountains. This is also the diet of the Aggron as well; all members of the Aron family only occasionally need to eat organic material because their stomachs can extract their daily minerals straight from the ores they eat. Also because their bodies have a higher ratio of metal than actual flesh, so they can go months with just eating nothing but metal and bedrock.

That’s why they need an entire mountain as territory. And they will defend it viciously against those who try to invade it or take its sustenance from it.

Their reactions to a presence on their mountain are usually these two: If they see something smaller than it on their mountain, they will simply shoo it away, by roaring loudly to convince it to leave. It doesn’t see a need to waste its energy on the said trespasser if its weaker than it. If it sees something bigger than it on the mountain, it will warn it and if it doesn’t go away, thrash it to near death. While there were cases of them unleashing a horde of Aron and Lairon on them, they prefer to leave their offspring out of their conflicts.

However, there are also times when natural disasters such as fires or landslides destroy their habitat unintentionally. To fix this, Aggron are noticeably productive, and waste no time in hauling new soil into the area to grow new trees. They’ll even repair the environment around it to be suitable for other Pokemon! Thus, in the wild, Aggron are not only seen as fierce creatures that deserve their privacy, but also as auspicious helpers after a serious accident has occurred.

( C ) Confrontations: While they are rare, confrontations between two Aggron still happen, even if the “mountain keeper” has already established his/her dominance over its territory. New Aggron may come looking for a new home. Either way, confrontations between two Aggron can get extremely violent, especially if the mountain keeper is a female with a litter of Aron living in the mountain.

Before fighting each other, they take a good long look at each other for how many gouges and wounds exist in their armor. They do this to deduce just how dangerous an opponent is; an Aggron with many wounds on its armor indicates it fought a lot of other Pokemon that were almost as strong or stronger than it, and it prevailed nonetheless. If it was able to survive that many conflicts, the current mountain keeper would see them as a serious threat.

When they stop looking at each other and decide to fight, these two fight each other face to face until either the old keeper dies, the old keeper leaves, or the new rival leaves. Only a male Aggron would leave a mountain he kept, because he can simply look for another, while a female can’t, and needs to keep hers for the sake of her litter. In the meanwhile, a rival almost never fights to the death, knowing its chances of looking for a new mountain are ruined if the mountain keeping Aggron kills it in battle.

( D ) Abilities and Weaknesses: While almost all Aggron use an exceptional amount of force to overtake an opponent, how it battles depends on its abilities.

Aggron with Rock Head tend to have thicker armor around their skull, which will of course protect them from anything with recoil. These individuals tend to make very reckless moves, charging head-on into an opponent without thinking anything of its own safety, because it knows it won’t be harmed by its own attack.

Aggron with Sturdy have enough armor piled onto its hide to shield it from being knocked out in one hit. These individuals tend to be more focused and can recuperate from a critical hit, allowing them to hold on just long enough to strike back.

However, a commonly notable ability they have it Heavy Metal. Aggron with this ability can fasten their armor close to each other, like buckling a belt, and tighten their muscles at once. These actions make the Aggron much heavier, doubling their weight in battle. These individuals are the most fond of overwhelming an individual with the sheer amount of blunt damage taken by 1400+ pounds at one time. These kinds of individuals are the ones battlers should be the most careful with facing.

Also, via TMs they are very capable of learning a wide range of even the strongest moves via basic energy manipulation, trademark in nearly all Pokemon. They have the capacity to learn Thunder, Blizzard, Fire Blast, Focus Blast, and Solar Beam. However, because their energy manipulation for ranged attacks is much weaker than their physical strength, people instead bestow them with moves using physical contact, such as Dragon Rush, Superpower, Heavy Slam, and even the ludicrously powerful Head Smash. This also stands alongside the several Steel-type moves they learn naturally, making them strong both offensively and defensively. This would make them unstoppable, were it not for the several debilitating weaknesses they have.

Aggron are weak against both Ground and Fighting types because of what both kinds of moves do not to its exterior armor, but its interior body. Both cause a massive amount of vibrations upon impact, and as its armor shakes uncontrollably, its inner body gets damaged by being pierced by its own armor. This especially goes towards Earthquake or Focus Punch, which could very easily knock it out altogether in one hit.

Trainer Tips:
- NEVER CATCH WILD AGGRON. Not only is it a beyond horrible idea, since it will come after you if you fail, but you could very well be leaving its clutch of Aron on their own and
unguarded if you succeed. It would be better to catch and raise them as Aron or Lairon.
- If you’re up against an Aggron with many scars on its body, BE PREPARED FOR A LONG FIGHT. Because they are very hardy, you should assume that they’ve lasted through many battles, so be careful.
- Again, if you come across a wild Aggron’s mountain, LEAVE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DON’T RISK GETTING HURT.
- TRY NOT TO BATTLE WITH YOUR AGGRON THE MOMENT IT EVOLVES. Give it a bit of time to mellow out and put its problems as a Lairon behind it. Then, it will indicate when it’s ready to battle competitively again.
- POLISH ITS ARMOR EARLY AND OFTEN. This is true for the Aron line as a whole, to keep its armor clean and tough.
- GUIDE IT TO A SPACE WITH LOTS OF ROCKS AND MINERALS IF IT’S PREGNANT. They will become very anxious if they’re not near a mountain when about to give birth, since baby Arons don’t drink milk. They are born with their bones developed for eating rocks and ores, so keep that in mind.
- TREAT IT TO SOME SCRAP METAL ONCE IN A WHILE. While they can eat “regular” Pokemon food, they prefer to eat iron. So, when you have a chance, treat it! It will appreciate it plenty.
- TAKE IT TO THE POKEMON CENTER ASAP IF IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE SUPER-EFFECTIVE HIT IN BATTLE. This one speaks for itself, because while Revives are good for consecutive battles, actual nurses can heal the wounds caused by their armor without lining their body inside with scars.

Personal Experiences
Strangely enough I hadn’t quite seen it battle, but the collateral damage it caused immediately after a battle.

I had just gotten back from using the restroom, and when I saw that an Aggron had finished battling a Reuniclus, my eyes were first met by the enormous craters left by what I presume to be Heavy Slam attacks. Sounds reasonable, as a good part of the Stadium was still shaking.

Even its footprints were embedded deep in the ground, but as soon as it appeared to be relaxing a flexed muscle, the footprints it left were actually much less embedded on the ground. So I presumed it to have Heavy Metal as an ability.

The boy who owned it, a kind of callous person from what I recall, was about to simply return it to its Pokeball when it started to devour heaps upon heaps of metal from the side of the building. It simply flung its Pokeball aside when the boy threw it at him. As the boy shouted at it, because it was allegedly wasting his time, I simply told him he should take better care of his Aggron. Denying that he should allow it to do this, I told him that Aggron eat metal, and to maintain their health, they need to have it at least sometimes. So, I told him to let it have its treat now so it can battle later.

He simply scorned at me and claimed he knew everything about raising Pokemon. I begged to differ, and so did his Aggron. Either way, I knew that no matter how angry that boy got, there was nothing he could do to stop what it was doing until it let him. To anyone reading this, I recommend catering to their tastes when you can to befriend them further, but otherwise don’t push your luck thinking you can simply control them.

The Heavy Metal ability...even oficially called as "ability" I don't like to use this word, because Aggron with Heavy Metal
are having different structure of their armor and bones and that't why their weight is doubled. It's not an ability... ;^;

100 years old...this is likely a half way they can reach. Furthermore, I want to say it's size can reach up to 40 feet...! Aggron reminds me somehow of modern Tyrantrum...
Even being more close cousin to Krookodile in Archosauria species evolution tree.

"Aggron are weak against both Ground and Fighting types because of what both kinds of moves do not to its exterior armor, but its interior body. Both cause a massive amount of vibrations upon impact, and as its armor shakes uncontrollably, its inner body gets damaged by being pierced by its own armor. You should also mention this is the reason why Aggron has one of its
ability Sturdy: in wild, when Earthquake occurs, it helps them survive and the species didn't became extinct.
