I know I'm probably gonna get floods of people telling me why they hate this little guy. I'll respect their opinions, by all means, but I won't get mad about it if they respect my opinion.
A lot of people hate Chris because (I think) they felt he was an unnecessary character for the Sonic X cast; they think he's a Gary Stu who takes the attention and focus away from the other characters like Tails, Amy, Rouge etc etc (key mention being the scene in the Biohazard episode, where Chris convinces Shadow to help Sonic fight the Biolizard and, later on in the same episode, Sonic gives Chris Shadow's bangle instead of giving it to Rouge).
Think about this for a sec; the "Shadow's debut" season and the one before that were adaptations of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast/Gamecube, and you surely can't expect those two seasons of Sonic X to follow the same story as the two games to the point, right? It's like movie adaptations of books; there are certain details that are in the book that don't make it into the movie or are changed entirely. Why fuss over those trivial details?
But I digress, I personally don't believe Chris deserves all of the hate he gets; he's just the son of an incredibly rich couple who are rarely at home, and is lonely (save for a small circle of friends from his school) as a consequence, having only his grandfather, butler and maid for company whenever he's not in school. He befriends Sonic and his friends and gives them a roof over their heads (save for Knuckles, though) while they're in Station Square.
There was something, though, I heard about that really ticked me off about Chris; someone made a comment on a video (playthrough of Sonic Adventure 2) where they said that Chris was to blame for King Boom Boo being released in Sonic X. This is NOT true; AMY was to blame. What really happened was Chris's mother, Tails and Sonic (I don't know if anyone else got caught as well) were all captured by King Boom Boo's ghosts (None of whom are a rip off of King Boo and the Boos in any way
), leaving Chris and Amy alone in the scary mansion where Lindsey, Chirs's mother, was shooting a movie. When Sonic tries to communicate with Chris and Amy, King Boom Boo talks to Amy as if he was Sonic instead, where he then convinces her to turn the weird hourglass thing moon side up, whereas Sonic was trying to tell her NOT to put it moon side up. After trying not to get hammered by a possessed Amy, Chris figures out that putting the hourglass sun side up would weaken the ghosts after the possessed Amy hesitates to attack Chris when he's in front of the hourglass. It's CHRIS that helps Sonic defeat the King Boo rip off.Anyhow, this is just my opinion; if you hate Chris, that's fine by me, but I only ask that you respect my opinion.

I agree with you. People who hates him are actually immature. I mean C'mon he's just a fictional character! You can't kill a fictional character because they don't exist. That character isn't so bad

They hate Chris because they don't feel he was necessary for the Sonic X cast. I think.

I'm personally not a "full fledged" fan of Chris. His "crappiness" mostly just seemed to fly right past me. Most of his haters seem to accuse him of being a so-called "whiny brat," which I sadly tend to behave like at times, but mostly just when I'm feeling moody, irritable, or when I'm going through other unusual psychological phases.

I originally watched through the English dub like most kids watching Sonic X, and I liked Chris a lot, HOWEVER, I ended up looking up the Japanese, uncut, with subtitles versions of the show, and once I finished rewatching it all, and then going back to the Dub, I could see WHY people probably disliked Chris so much. D= I couldn't watch that version ever again, let's just say. XD

I haven't seen the subbed version of the show, but I can still see why people don't like him. I just wish they didn't hate Sonic X purely because of Chris, it's not fair D=

If you want to watch the Japanese version then just go to Hulu. 4kids have accurately subtitled episodes for each episode. Although episode 26 kind of has a bad translation near the end so when you get to that point you should go to youtube and type in Sonic X Kotoba ni Dekinai scene in HQ and watch the video that pops up. The subtitles in that are from 4kidstv's youtube channel which they had to take down because they no longer own the rights to Sonic X.

I didn't see an issue at first, how I originally thought the dub flushed out his character enough to understand that, while he IS a rich kid, he doesn't want to be SEEN as 'just that rich kid,' but as himself, a normal young boy. He never goes out and shows off, despite being so loaded, and doesn't purchase anything and everything--which a NORMAL rich kid probably would do.
Hell, all he really wants is to be with his family. But THAT is where the dub messed up... It cut out important scenes of Chris' past as a child, where he was excited to learn his parents were coming home, only to get really nice presents, but being bummed when they themselves don't show up. Basically, he doesn't care about the toy, he just wants his family--and there is NOTHING wrong with that, especially for a young child. I think because of that, and another dumb the dub did with the scene where Sonic is about to leave, only for Chris to steal him away--in the sub, you hear throughout the good-bye scene Chris' mind basically screaming 'No,' getting louder and louder before he finally snaps.
The dub.... is just nothing. =d It seems pretty out of no where. His character is also a lot more selfless, and tries his best to help and be less of a baggage--which is stated more-so in another scene that the dub(I believe) messed up, where they were holding a fighting competition and Chris was joining in. The dub made him say something more selfish and how he wants people to see him, and not as 'just that kid who hangs out with Sonic.' In the sub, it was 'I want to prove myself that I am not some wimpy kid who needs to be saved, but can help you.' sorta thing. =d
Its been a while since I watched it, but those were the random things I noticed. XD Sadly, I never got to see the final season with Cosmos. But... Oh wells. =d

If you want to watch the Japanese version with accurate subtitles then go to Hulu. 4kids subtitled all of the episodes very accurately on there (except for near the ending of episode 26, for that part you should go to youtube and type in Kotoba ni Dekinai scene in HQ. That video has the subtitles that were on 4kidstv's youtube channel before they unfortunately had to take them down because they no longer own the rights to Sonic X). These accurate subtitles are much better then any of the fansubs.

I've never had any issues with fansubs, plus I heard the newest versions cut out the music they used when Chris and Sonic had to say goodbye... Plus I can't watch Hulu, how it forces me to turn off my adblockplus to force me to view commercials, but I can't do that because if I do... my computer freaks out and freezes.

No Hulu isn't what did that. The DVD versions did that because of copyright issues.

Ah, I see. I haven't seen the redone versions, so I wasn't sure if it was hard to find or not now. XD Just assumed it might be~ And the copyright issues was just the Sonic X creators not being willing to pay the money to.. was it Off Course? Ya, that was the issue. =d

Well they would have to keep paying Off Course for each DVD made so I don't think that would be a very smart business decision for them to pay for that. Though I will agree that I wish those songs were kept in the versions.

That depends on how much they're asking. XD Considering they only used.. two? of the Off Course songs, and then comparing it to another anime like FLCL that used a full CD soundtrack from The Pillows for all their episodes...
But I like to think 4Kids had something to do with ruining them a bit financially over seas to make this an issue at all. =d 4Kids was hard pressed to keep as little Japanese culture in every anime they took up, censoring them and cutting scenes... And then there is also the famous banned episodes of Pokemon(though the only one I agree with banning is the seizure inducing one... Lemme see James' knockers~) and the terrible episode with them owning One Piece... that was just a dog-pile of shiiiiit... Well, except for ONE thing. The opening them was HILARIOUS. XD Cracked me up every time. Jeebus.
Basically, we never got to see the unedited, uncensored version over here via DVD releases, and I doubt we ever will... unless its a shitty bootleg which I do own.

They used three Off Course songs. They used Kotoba ni Dekinai in episode 26, Natsu no hi in Episode 52, and Midori no Hibi in episode 52

Ah, right... I forgot about the Amy and Sonic scene. =d I really do like that song, but I hate what it kinda implies. XD
I dunno, in my mind, Sonic is best(if straight) with Sally, especially how I am one of those people who hate to see films/moves/cartoons that have animal-anthro-humanoids of different species in one universe, and yet they always pair up with their own species. Such as a rabbit ends up with a rabbit, a cat ends up with a cat, fox with fox... Etc... It seems very biased. XD And Sonic X did show some possible pairings that WERE outside of that narrow box, like Vector having a crush on Cream's mother, and Tails having a relationship with a flower... alien girl? XD Either way, I approve of those. Amy and Sonic? N...no... I see them more like siblings, so its kinda creepy to me. XD

There was also a more tasteful ending in the Japanese version, though I've heard they edited even THAT due to money-issues on the song they used(Off Course). Either way, the whole ending, for the most part(around Amy and Sonic's half) was filled with the song played ONLY, no dialogue--which the dub crammed in because... *shrug* I guess we're shit at understanding subtly. DX

I'm kinda on the fence about it. I'm one of those who doesn't think he should have taken the spotlight from Amy and Rouge. On the other hand, the hate he gets is ridiculous. And that makes me feel sorry for him. I can think of animal characters who interfered more with the story than Chris ever did. But because he's human, he gets targeted more. Betcha if Sonic X debuted in the 90s and Chris was an animal, not as many people would hate him. He wouldn't even have to have a different kind of personality.

I don't mind Chris, I like him too.
However, yes someone else got taken, Cream, Cheese and Ella...I think it's the name of one of the caretaker of Chris's house...I don't remember the name. And I remember watching it...however I don't kinda remember if Chris's mother was taken...Yeah, and however if it wasn't for Chris, also Sonic wouldn't have been alive and also...Hem...did you see all episodes? Cause I don't wanna do spoilers if ya didn't...I did once and it wasn't nice....
