A while ago, I noticed I tend to favour the more "under-appreciated" characters and dislike the more popular ones. However, I couldn't think of ten characters very easily (I was only able to think of six for each category), so I decided to split this twin meme in half and "fuse" them together. Therefore, I present to you the top five characters I love but everyone else hates and the top five characters I hate but everyone else loves.

Characters I love:
#5 - The Boos from the Mario series
Granted, I CAN see why other people hate these enemies; they can't be confronted head-on like other Mario enemies, making them hard to defeat. As hard to defeat as they may be (both of the Boo boss fights in the Luigi's Mansion games annoyed me to some extent, I won't lie about that), I find the Boos to be adorable despite their arguably grotesque appearance (and long tongues) and, if nothing else, I find they're some of the more unique enemies in terms of how you defeat them (Luigi's Mansion 2 having my favourite method for its entertainment value).

#4 - Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail
I'm not going to lie; when I first watched Fairy Tail, I wasn't too keen on Lucy; I felt she wasn't really all that useful to her team and I didn't like how vain she was. I still don't really like her sense of vanity (or vanity in general), but I have at least grown to respect her as time went on until, eventually, I grew to enjoy her as a character! She can be a bit cowardly at times, but not everybody has to be brave 100% of the time and she at least still tries her best for her team and guild, whether it's being there for moral support or by being the team's egghead. Yeah, despite her appearance and behaviour, she IS a smart cookie, her first mission with Natsu being a prime example of this.

#3 - Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh
One of my long-time personal favourites on this list, but I can see why he gets the hatred he gets; he was an arrogant jerk to Yugi and his friends from the very moment he appeared to public eye. While his behaviour towards Yugi and company became slightly toned down over time, Seto was still a jerk to them, Joey in particular. All that considered, I find it rather disappointing that people forget he's still dedicated to his little brother, as indicated in the Duellist Kingdom arc and the Battle City arc (among others). People also seem to forget that Seto's practically a "self-made man", having started with virtually nothing until he received ownership of his adopted father's company fairly (albeit cruelly to some degree, as I recall him buying a company and reselling it to the previous owner for 10x the original cost). And he turned the company from a weapons manufacturer to a gaming company; that is such an extreme change of business!

#2 - Kiara from The Lion King 2 Simba's Pride
Definitely one of the most hated characters in the Lion King fandom and all because of one word; Kopa. Many people in the fandom seem to believe that Kopa was supposed to be Simba's cub at the end of The Lion King, but, the thing is...I don't know what they're talking about. No, really, I don't know where this whole "Kopa" nonsense came from; I don't know who he is...which probably means I grew up under a rock. Anyway, I don't understand why Kiara is despised, all Kopa theories aside; she doesn't pine for more than what she has already, she wants to be independent and do things on her own (which is hard if you're in royalty) and she grows as a character! Instead of wanting more than what she has, she wants what she's "missing"; her other half - her soul-mate! The best thing I find with this is she doesn't discover that Kovu is her soul-mate until they reunite as "teenagers" after the savannah fire (that Kovu's "family" started). The romance between Kiara and Kovu builds up steadily, which is something that isn't easy to pull off, especially in a Disney sequel.

#1 - Chris Thorndyke from Sonic X
My undisputed #1 spot goes to the most hated non-anthro character in everything under the Sonic franchise (one of them, at least). Chris is hated for A LOT of reasons, so allow me to debunk them:

"HE STOLE HIS HAIR FROM SORA FROM KINGDOM HEARTS!!"

That's the stupidest reason to ever hate a character I have ever heard! The fact that his hairstyle RESEMBLES Sora's is possibly a sheer coincidence and nothing more. Just because his hairstyle looks like someone else's, it doesn't mean he's RIPPING IT OFF. There IS a difference, people!

"HE'S ANNOYING!!"
...care to expand on that? What is it you find annoying about him? His voice, his childlike behaviour? Think about this; he has this childlike behaviour because he IS a child! Not to mention...you wouldn't have HAD Sonic X if he hadn't saved Sonic from drowning in his swimming pool in the first episode!

"HE STEALS ROLES FROM THE OTHER CHARACTERS!! HE'S A LEECH!!"
This one's a bit more understandable, but, at the same time, is still petty. While this is mostly applicable to the arcs based on Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2, it's still a common reason why Chris is hated. To take what I said in my Pro-Chris stamp; "A lot of people hate Chris because (I think) they felt he was an unnecessary character for the Sonic X cast; they think he's a Gary Stu who takes the attention and focus away from the other characters like Tails, Amy, Rouge etc etc (key mention being the scene in the Biohazard episode, where Chris convinces Shadow to help Sonic fight the Biolizard and, later on in the same episode, Sonic gives Chris Shadow's bangle instead of giving it to Rouge).

Think about this for a sec; the "Shadow's debut" season and the one before that were adaptations of Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast/Gamecube, and you surely can't expect those two seasons of Sonic X to follow the same story as the two games to the point, right? It's like movie adaptations of books; there are certain details that are in the book that don't make it into the movie or are changed entirely. Why fuss over those trivial details?"

"HE'S ADDICTED TO SONIC!!"
...and Amy isn't?

Personally, I don't think Chris is as "addicted" to Sonic as Amy is; Chris DOES, however, see Sonic as his best friend - that being said, why WOULDN'T Chris care about Sonic? There's a difference between caring about someone and being creepily obsessed with them (Amy, in my opinion, is certainly the latter).

"HE STOPPED SONIC FROM GOING HOME!!
Hoo boy...

Look, if YOUR best friend was leaving and never returning, would YOU be willing to let them go so easily? Sure, I don't condone what Chris did, but he just wasn't ready to part with his best non-human friend! While others call what Chris did "kidnapping", I respectfully disagree; Sonic had no problem with what Chris did (for some reason), ergo you can't TECHNICALLY call it kidnapping.

"HE BARELY DOES ANYTHING!!"
Let me see...

He saved Sonic in the first episode, he found the first Chaos Emerald, he provided Sonic and his friends with a place to live, he convinces Shadow to help Sonic stop the ARK (even GETTING HURT in the process!) and contributes his eventual scientific know-how to defeat the Metarex! All of those are quite the accomplishments for someone like Chris, I must say... It doesn't SOUND like a lot, but remember; quality over quantity~!

The point is Chris is my #1 most adored character that everyone else seems to despise and want to slaughter with rusty chainsaws... And nothing anyone can say will change my mind!

Now for the more controversial side of the coin~!

Characters I hate:
#5 - The Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy cast
I honestly can't understand how I could like this show in the past; the Eds all possess quirks that I, personally, find annoying (Eddy being the worst of the three for me) and the neighbourhood kids are moronic stereotypes; Rolf's the foreign farmer's lad with an exaggerated love for his origins, Sarah's the bratty little sister, Jimmy's the wimpy kid that's prime for bullying, Kevin's the bully, Naz is just...meh, Johnny's...I don't even know WHAT Johnny is and the Kanker sisters are just the generic "trailer park" girls... I don't think I need to say anything else about this.

#4 - Isabelle from Animal Crossing New Leaf
Hoo boy...

Isabelle is a new addition to the Animal Crossing series, being the assistant to the Mayor in New Leaf. My problem with her? I find her pretty much useless, I don't like how "ditzy" she often is and I don't like her design; overall, I just don't find her as "cute" and "adorable" as every other New Leaf player finds her to be. And hearing that she made it to the new Smash Bros game as an Assist Trophy...that really ground my gears! It doesn't help that I find Isabelle overrated overall either...

#3 - Sonic the Hedgehog from his namesake
I don't want to talk about this anymore, so I'll dump what I said about him last time;
"I was attacked for having Sonic on my last list - and let me tell you, dealing with those flamers was actually quite entertaining, seeing their apparent lack of education - but I will gladly keep putting him on such lists!

Even though I grew up with this fella, because of a distinct lack of an N64 in my childhood, the increasing disappointment with the new games (as of SA2B and Sonic Heroes, which I still enjoy to some degree) and the disgusting fandom behind it - with all of the uncreative recolours fan characters, I eventually decided enough was enough and considered the blue hedgehog dead, never to enjoy the series again. Might still play SA2B and Sonic Heroes, but that'll be very rarely. But that's besides the point.

Seriously, though, folks, if you're going to create a Soinc fan character, CHOOSE SOMETHING OTHER THAN A HEDGEHOG!!! I mean, come on, you have A WHOLE CRAPLOAD of OTHER animals to choose from! Gerbils, Kangaroos, Pandas, Polar bears, horses, snakes, monkeys, different species of birds, lions, turtles, THE LIST IS ENDLESS!!! BE DIFFERENT!!

And NO colouring in Sonic X Screenshots kthanxbai."

#2 - Cynthia from Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
...hold on, she's only #2?!

I ranted ON AND ON AND ON about this woman, so GO READ THIS for my reasons for hating her.

*deep breath in* *elongated exhale*

#1 - Kellyn from Pokémon Ranger Shadows of Almia
...I'm not sorry. I kind of USED to be, but...now...I'm not. I'm not sorry. But...how did he top Cynthia as my most hated non-villain character?! I'll tell you; because I read the Shadows of Almia manga. To my surprise, it made me HATE him even more, and those coloured "panels" of him using his styler didn't exactly help!

In the games, he is nothing more than the generic player character that SOMEHOW gets a mention in Guardian Signs as "The ELITE Ranger Kellyn".

In the anime, what little personality he possessed had no time to flourish due to everyone's favourite Gary Stu Ash Ketchum stealing the limelight AS PER USUAL.

In the manga, he's obsessed with cleanliness, his collection and with basing what he does on past events (kudos to Kate for convincing him to stop doing the latter, though). And remember those coloured "panels" I mentioned earlier? Yeah, that just glorifies how "virtually flawless" he is...I absolutely cannot stand people showing off; it gives me the impression that they have egos, which, in a character that ISN'T supposed to have an ego, is a terrible character trait (so egotistical characters like Zap Brannigan from Futurama get a free pass because they're SUPPOSED to be egotistical).

And yet people love him because he's "cute". EVEN THEN, I find his design to be completely underwhelming! I know my heavy dislike for Kellyn has cost me substantially in the past, but I don't care at this point; Kellyn is my #1 most hated character that everybody else loves, and I am not ashamed of that!

If you disagree with me on any of these, that's fine! Just be the decent human being you're supposed to be and respect my opinion! If you agree with me on any of them, though, that's fine as well! Just don't ridicule others who disagree with you!

TL;DR? I am disappoint.
