It was dusk, the overcast sky a dark smoky gray quickly fading to black. There was no sunset to celebrate the transition, hidden by Adetunji’s angry heavy clouds. The temperature was dropping rapidly, and it was clear by the bite in the air that winter was coming, and soon. Through the still evening a long, low howl echoed off the distant mountains. The Alpha of Havir was summoning his pack for a gathering.
Saurugol watched his pack gather, his amber eyes narrowed and tired. Everyone was tired. They had lost two out of their three Healers, Siobhan and Freya, along with the most recent disappearance of Priestess Taiyo. Their disappearances on top of Ira’s death was putting strain on the pack physically and emotionally as the early Havirian winter drew ever nearer. Aphrodi especially was under particular strain, all healing responsibilities shoved onto his shoulders alone. Saurugol’s pale amber eyes found his cousin in the crowd. He was easy to spot with
