So at last, Season 5 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comes to a close. And honestly? I thought it was an incredibly fun and enjoyable ride. It may have had its flops and faults, but really, I loved watching it.

This brings me to the topic of the finale "The Cutie Re-Mark," and the coming around of the character, Starlight Glimmer. Boy, do I have a lot to say about this.

For those that know me personally, you know that up to this point, I despised Starlight. She was everything I hated in a character; completely remorseful for her actions (stealing others' Cutie Marks), arrogant even when she was confronted with her lies (concealing her own Cutie Mark from her many followers), and essentially got away with murder and escaped from the Mane 6 after losing it all. So I was hoping with every fiber of my being she'd get what was coming to her in the season finale. When I found out she'd be using time travel to prevent Princess Twilight Sparkle and the Mane 6 from ever meeting each other, I almost couldn't believe it. Seeing it for myself, the damage she caused to the history of all of Equestria was far worse than I could've imagined.

But seeing how her whole attitude of "Cutie Marks bring nothing but trouble" first started...wow. I knew there must've been a reason she hated Cutie Marks, but what she revealed was unlike anything I had thought. Totally unexpected, but still surprising. I felt kind of bad for raging against her for as long as I had, but even then, she still raged on against Twilight. And then....she was easily atoned for her actions, and was to be taken under Twilight's wing.

What do I think of it? Well....I like it.

I know a lot of people, even some of my friends like Tyraka628 and WCPsycho , don't like Starlight being reformed, especially since it seems to continue on the trend of villains such as Sunset Shimmer, Nightmare Moon and (to an extent) Discord being reformed rather easily. And I can understand why they wouldn't like that.

But hear me out on this. And just think of it this way.

Yes, the ending of "The Cutie Re-Mark" and what happened to Starlight Glimmer may have been a dead giveaway, but consider this.
The events of that episode showed that Starlight and Twilight are near equal in terms of magical capabilities. Starlight could remove others' Cutie Marks, and was able to alter a spell by Starswirl the Bearded to change the fabric of time. Twilight is capable of a number of different spells, all in varying degrees of power. With Starlight now under Twilight's wing (pun intended), it leaves open a lot of potential for Season 6, where I feel the overarching story of it all could be that Twilight tries to teach Starlight how to better use her magic. But I suppose we'll have to see.

Besides that, for those that still aren't happy with Starlight being friendly now, what's not to say she can't be a villain in fan-made Pony works? Those close to me know that I've my own plans for Starlight Glimmer in a future arc with the Elements of Insanity, but besides that, she can still be a villain outside of the main story of the show. You just have to write her as such on your own. Simple as that.

So all in all, I'm happy to see Starlight Glimmer on the side of good now, but I can respect the opinions of those that don't like it. But say what you will. Season 5 went out with a bang, and I'm happy to have experienced it. So here's to you, Bronies~
