That didn't stop a younger Toph from being hard on Aang when they were kids. I honestly think she'd be even more harsh in training her own child and have greater expectations from them quicker.

I'm pretty sure this is because these have been sketches with details added in, not full-colored pieces. A sketch of Katara would, most of the time, have a white background, for example, since she wasn't colored in.
BUT that is still a valid complaint! Thank you for actually presenting that criticism in an honest and polite way, and NOT being a JERK about like lots of people are. >_>;

Yea, if you look at most of this artist's work, at least for this project, skin tones aren't colored in, so they become the background color. Just seems to be that artist's style, but it's certainly worth commenting on.
And yes, people on Tumblr, in particular, overreact, and in turn can be very mean and hypocritical in so doing. ^_^; So thanks for NOT being that way!

i lot of people think tokka shouldnt happen cuz the whole lin and tenzin thing but what if katara gave up on aang and zutara happened bbut then thered be no tenzin to change it to zutara

Well, since these are for MY story, I think I can provide the answer why in these pictures they're referred to that way.
In the story, Katara and Aang become like Aunt/Uncle to Lin because they're so close to Toph.
Sokka becomes Lin's STEP dad, since Lin's biological father is never a part of her life.
That's the explanation for the story in these pictures for the 'Esteemed' project -- it's a realistic thing that happens (step parents) while still allowing for Tenzin and Lin to not be biologically related (even though in older times cousins sometimes did become involved, but of course there's a modern taboo against that).
