Description This render was inspired by a theschell image: vanishingpoint.biz/galleryimag… .

I wanted to see if I could create something similar. I think it came out ok.

You have done some pretty nice renders.  One question I have for you.  In your render, there is a catapult mechanism.  Is that something you added, because I couldn't find that on the Carrier?

theschell In reply to tkdrobert [2018-03-06 17:24:57 +0000 UTC]

I added that just for the scene by cobbling together a few spare bits from my parts folders... I was tempted to add that as a working feature on the carrier, but there is a slight angle to the catapult launcher rails and getting the catapult hook-up to follow them properly would have been problematic so I chose to forgo that extra detail...

That's what I thought.  That was a nice detail in your render.  I was too lazy to try and figure out how to do it myself.

I would offer one suggestion... I'd make the afterburner plumes slightly more yellow than orange and brighter a bit (In my image I'd created a pair of high-intensity point lights which I embedded in the burner nacelles/feet and set them to cast shadows... don't forget to turn off shadow casting for the burner plume props as well if you do this)... I hope you don't mind the feed-back?

This render was in IRAY.  The prop I used has light emission.  I turned it up, but I think I turned the opacity to high.  When it is set to default, it doesn't look quite right to me.  I always struggle with afterburner color on Sci-Fi vehicles.  There is so much variety out there.

Also, I never mind constructive feedback, it helps me get better.

I did a freebie afterburner effects prop that should work in IRay with the right settings to materials and surfaces... was what I used in most of my recent aircraft renders...

I didn't think about that.  I'll try it out.  I was able to convert your explosions to IRAY, with some enhancements win Photoshop.

I have some explosion/fire/afterburner effects for 3Delight that I bought a year ago that will not convert to IRAY, so I was pleasantly surprised when yours did so nicely. There is a free script that will convert IRAY to 3Delight and it has worked perfect everytime I have used it, so far anyway.

Most items set up for 3Delight can transfer fairly readily to IRay, so long as the content creator did things properly... it doesn't work as easily from IRay to 3Dl though...
