Description
Taken in Cuyahoga Valley National Park - OhioAfter visiting Blue Hen Falls upstream I took a surprisingly cool shortcut through knee-deep water then started walking downstream through the stream. As I came around the bend, I beheld this sight and just stopped as it took my breath away for a moment. Having spent a year avoiding this area due to a bad car accident, I felt like I was getting a message saying that all was back in balance in the world.
And then I plopped down my tripod and got the photo. I mean, let's not get silly here! I thought at first I needed to find a focal point for this shot, to move around and zoom in until I found the light hitting something--in fact it does light up a rock really well--but I finally realized that it was unnecessary as the light spilling through the trees was enough.
I still look at this photo and feel at peace and happy.

I feel bad that it's been over a week since I got up before the dawn to do any photography and it has me all out of whack, so I can't wait to be done processing my wedding photos so I can get back out there without guilt!

Sorry to hear that... I wish you luck with your wedding photos, and I have usually been doing my photography before noon or after 6pm since it has been in the high 80s/low 90s with nearly 100% humidity here and I have excessive body heat, learned that the hard way after I got violently sick to my stomach in the truck on the way back from a junkyard...

Oh boy! We went through that kind of weather a few weeks ago and last week was blessedly normal with warm but not awfully so. I've been able to keep my windows open instead of running the AC day and night...Stay safe and keep yourself hydrated too!

It was 99 degrees on Sunday the 21st, much of which I spent in a tractor graveyard, and I managed OK. I still had to run the A/C in the house continuously from 7am Saturday morning to now since my house gets full sun on the front and one side all day, and have been drinking large amounts of Gatorade... I think my problem in the junkyard last week had to do with drinking 4 Red Bulls for breakfast and another on the way over, instead of water, juice or Gatorade...

Thank you! When I saw them all I could think was that I had a very short time to get this right so I'm so happy I was able to get it!

I would want to take a shot like this too. Do you still remember what exposure compensation did you use? Was it 0EV, or something to plus or minus?

Normally I usually have my EV set to -.7 but I thought that it might dim the rays of sunlight so I left it uncompensated.

Thank you. I think you captured it very well. I don't have too much experience with this kind of photo, that's why I asked.

Thanks!! I haven't done much like this myself so I just went with instinct and the few years of shooting I've done (which still makes me a baby learning to crawl LOL), so I was happy that it all turned out well!

This is definitely my favorite as well (so far!! hehe), and when I started taking the photo of this I kept thinking "Don't screw this up, you have a short time to get this one right." I'm happy I was able to get this to share with everyone.
