Description I'm so sorry Bix!

This is a piece of birthday gift art for *TonomuraBix . She requested that I drew either her boy Dash, or his girl, Zel. I went with the bishie. For this piece, I did it all in Illustrator before bringing it to Photoshop. This means I could theoretically make this bad boy as big as I freakin' want without degradation. I want to have that capability with my work, which is why I prefer doing my work in Illustrator. I learned a few things about how I want to do my art, and even used a technique my sister, ~domo-grande , came up with for coloring.

@Bix, if you like, I can send you the Illustrator file for this if you like, or just a big ol' high res version. Up to you.

His clothes were a blast to design. That was one of the main focuses of what I wanted to accomplish in this.

Gah bishie! This turned out really good. His stance just has that sexy bad boy vibe about him. Coloring turned out great too. btw, what is the difference between Illustrator and photoshop? I've been hearing about illustrator, but have no clue what it is.

Thanks! Exactly what I was going for.

Here's the deal on Photoshop vs. Illustrator:

Illustrator is a vector based art program, instead of raster. Basically, it's based on points and some math is involved, to make it crisp and able to be infinitely resized without degradation, where Photoshop's raster art will blur and pixelate with size adjustments.

In the way the art is created in Illustrator, it often involves using the Pen Tool for precision line and shape art. It can be challenging, as the Pen Tool is tough to use for some, instead of just painting/drawing things. There is a Pen Tool in Photoshop, I think having a look at that is something that will help you see what I mean.

Oddly enough, some people find it easier to use the Pen Tool, especially for certain tasks like creating lineart. I'm not steady-handed with my tablet, so I definitely rely on Illustrator for my lines. My sister, ~domo-grande , uses Illustrator exclusively, only using Photoshop to port her work into usable image formats like PNG or JPG.

I hope that helps. It's definitely not for everyone, but I find it very useful.

Ah I see, thanks for the info. >w< I would have to get it and practice with it at some point. Not sure how well I would do since I still do all of my drawing on paper before scanning it into photoshop. Still...I've been doing some brief research into graphic design and they seem to like this program over photoshop. I can see why now with your description of it, being able to change the size without degration sounds like a very useful feature.

Well, then it might be something for you to at least try out. I either do a sketch in Photoshop or on paper before I start in Illustrator. You are able to place raster images (PNG, JPG, GIF, and so on) and use it as a base for doing the art. It is a handy tool that is big in the graphic art industry, like you said. In the program that I went through at the Art Institute, people in my program thought I was nuts for using it, but it is great if you want things looking very crisp. I have a portable version that I should be able to send you, if you would like to try it.

Oh ok, that'll be helpful then. And sure for the portable thing. I wouldn't mind trying it out at some point ^^ Thank you.

Okay, it's relatively small, but too big for email, so we need to schedule some time on messenger.
