Description
Ah yes, the resident tentacle monster of "Salus Carnis": Behold the Psyclasp. These inky, non-Newtonian masses are more or less your average fare for such subgenre of monster. However, their main driving force/gimmick is their psychic abilities, especially tied to their highly "empathic" nature.
See, these creatures are basically rudimentary psychic computers meets Zalgo. In that regard, they are only as dangerous as you think they are. Whatever you think (and very much believe) that they do to their victims, that is what exactly they will do to you. If you think they simply squeeze the life out of their victims, then squeeze they shall. If you believe they are the lecherous swine you see in some dubious anime, then such will be the case. If you think they use their tentacles to outright dismember or bisect their victims, then "that is how a [psyclasp] do".
However, this rudimentary modus operandi can also be used against them, especially by misinforming others or botching an explanation about how these monsters work. A most common way is convincing people that they do to you what you think about them doing to you. To that end, one can simply make them be all scary and go away, or make them craft a jelly sandwich, or even make them do a funny dance, and the monster will comply. Another subgenre of this method is trying to make them do something so utterly outside their capabilities that they compromise or even destroy themselves from overexertion. However, try as you might, if you know truly how they operate, or if you already have a set perception of how these creatures work, then you can't fool them into doing otherwise. Because if there's one thing they're very good at, it's seeing through lies, even the ones we tell ourselves.
