Description
First time I made a planet impact image. Not very original but I wanted to give it a try on my own. All in all I am quite happy with the feeling I generated. I hope you like it as well.Several different wallpapersizes available on my homepage: gtgraphics.de

Looks awesome.
btw, I put this impact through a simulation, and the result would be that, assuming the larger planet is the size of Earth and that the smaller one is the size and density of Pluto, even the people on the other side of the world (16,000 km away) would have only about 12 minutes to prepare for death from being scorched by the rapidly-expanding fireball (which would mantain itself for nearly two whole days), despite being nearly 4,000 km away from it. Further destruction would arrive 53 minutes after impact in the form of a Richter 13.8 earthquake, and then everything would be completely destroyed after 13.5 hours, when a 6,372 kph wind with an air pressure of over 49 atmospheres would grind everything to powder.
...so yeah, we'd be goners. D=

I really like how well you portrayed motion in a still art piece. The blurred pieces of rock look great, and I love the impact. Nice job with the details.

I THINK THE PLANET IS A LITTLE FAR INTO THE OTHER PLANET TO HAVE GENERATED SUCH A SMALL IMPACT ZONE BY THAT TIME...THAT IS UNLESS THE SMALL PLANET WAS MOVING EXTREMELY FAST

Yeah, I probably should've noted that in the critique as well. By the time the object was that far into the planet, the damage would have been much more substantial than just the destruction of the immediate point of impact.

I cannot critique your work in the way a teacher of the Arts can. I will tell you that your work stopped me from doing what I came to do and I am always pressed for time.
The glow of the object impacting is what brings the life to the image, it makes it a collision.
A planet must be heated to its core.. no, the outside is as heated as it's core... The quick questions that run through a persons mind when they, I or anyone is impressed with what they see.
Just.. like .. this one. Thank You

Sad thing is, I can't really appreciate the integrity and amazing skill you need to accomplish a piece of art like this because the appearance of it makes me sad and somewhat scared. My fear won't abandon me until we actually make it to the twenty second of December, and THEN my sanity shall be restored. XD

I think the composition for this turned out just perfect. I really like the brighter star in the background, and it adds a whole different light (no pun intended) to this image, giving it a lot more depth and interest than it would have with just the one (planetary crash) focal point. The larger flying rock in the foreground helps this too.

Makes me wonder if it would really look at all like this. How fast must the relative velocity have been, for the planetoid to still be a sphere at the time of impact? Must be a really rare event, too; both of those objects are old.

well...that'll definitely ruin someone's day.
Random guy on planet just going about his day:
Guy: "oh man what a great day this is. the sun is shinning, i have a day off for the first time in months...i'm gonna go out and live life to the fullest"
Guy looks up to see giant asteroid falling:
Guy: "awww crap"
Asteroid impacts planet and planet explodes
anyway great work, love your stuff so keep it up

That's not an asteroid. That's a dwarf planet. Think about 1600miles across. About the size of Pluto.
