Description
Whee, my entry to the Let's Get Animated! contest. With Robin as Kenshin and Starfire as Kaoru from Rurouni Kenshin. [Full view please]Anime/Manga Background:
During the Bakumatsu, aka the Meiji Restoration, Himura Kenshin was known as Hitokiri Battousai, a skilled assassin. He was the legendary top assassin for the reformist group Ishin Shishi (a group wanted to restore the emperor; they won XP). He was viewed as cold and heartless by many by the sheer number of people he killed. However, he fell in love. And then in a tragic accident in a fight with his love's former fiancé – he killed both his attacker and his love, who jumped in front of Kenshin's blade in order to stop them. From this, he received a cross-shaped scar that never faded. Broken, Kenshin later left the revolution and became a rurouni, a wanderer, and carried a sakabato – a reversed edge sword, as a symbol of his resolve never to kill again. Eleven years later (Meiji era), Kenshin meets Kaoru. This is where the anime/manga begins. Eventually, the two fall in love and marry.
The Teen Titans Connection:
Robin – as Kenshin. Kenshin is an enigma. As rurouni, he is happy, carefree, always smiling. However, his past as Battousai and killer of hundreds tends to come back and bite him on the butt. XP Because of his past, Kenshin is constantly trying to repress his hitokiri self. This is like Robin's escapades in "Masks," "Apprentice," and "Haunted" – times when Robin made mistakes and times when his mistakes came back to haunt him. Kenshin also uses the Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryu style, a style that requires exceptional speed and agility to master; it uses a lot of leaping and running. With Robin's past as an acrobat, the style "suits" him. And of course there's the X-shaped scar. A reference to Red X, and his resolve never to make that mistake again.
Starfire -- as Kaoru. Kaoru is a master of Kamiya Kasshin-ryu, or "swords that give life." It's a style that believes in not killing. Starfire matches with Kaoru for her happy nature and the light she brings to Kenshin's life, like Starfire is with Robin. She's the one that brings Kenshin back from "Battousai moments," and a big reason of why Kenshin is living (of course, love has a big part in it. XP) Kaoru is very dedicated to Kenshin, going so far as to track Kenshin down when he leaves Tokyo because he believes Kaoru would be safer if she stayed out of the way. Obviously, both Kaoru and Starfire think otherwise – like in Apprentice. Starfire and Robin's relationship could easily turn into the deep love between Kaoru and Kenshin.
[The other TT]
Beast Boy -- As Yahiko. The young student of Kaoru. Loud-mouthed but extremely loyal, Beast Boy totally fits as him.
Cyborg -- As Sano. Sano is the tough guy, who uses his fists to fight. Much like Cyborg, but without the sonic cannon. XD He's very good friends with Kenshin.
Raven -- Well, there's no personality that matches very well with Raven, sadly. You could say she's like Megumi, the doctor – a connection to Raven's healing abilities. She was coerced by someone to make opium, so it's kinda like how Trigon forced Raven. She's the "main competition" with Kaoru for Kenshin (at least, that's how Kaoru sees it), so it's kinda like the Rob/Rae and Rob/Star split, except Kenshin only has eyes for Kaoru. XP However, Megumi's also flirtatious, so unless Raven is in some AU fic or wildly OOC, Raven's not going to be acting like Megumi. I really wanted to draw Raven, but *sighs* couldn't find a personality match.
The Artwork:
Whee. This is the first time I've ever drawn the TT. And Japanese clothing. Came out pretty well, considering. I used a ton of references, mainly manga volume cover 16. And a ton of screenshots.
I wanted to put a "Rurouni Robin" logo in the corner, except that 1) I don't have Photoshop and 2) my handwriting is terrible.
I put BB in the corner because…well…I can't help it, I wanted some humor in there. Yahiko and Sano tend to tease Kenshin and Kaoru on their relationship, much like how Beast Boy and Cyborg do with Robin and Starfire. …And besides, BB turned out cute. Wai!
Yeah…done in pencil, outlined in pen, colored with Crayola colored pencils. O_o I don't have Photoshop or any digital art coloring program nor a fancy scanner, so please don't judge me on that.
Yeah…hope you enjoyed. Comments and criticism welcomed, as this is the first TT fanart I've ever done and feedback would be nice. *waves* Sayonara!

Role-wise Raven fits best as Megumi, personality-wise Raven fits best with Tomoe(Kenshin's first wife).

Man, why didn't I remember Tomoe! *knocks head* Raven definitely fits Tomoe personality-wise! Too bad it'd be really weird to have both "Kaoru" and "Tomoe" in one pic, unless Tomoe/Raven is in spirit form or something.

Anguish *sighs* As much as I love your Robin as Kenshin picture, I'm pretty sad about your starfire being kaoru. (don't ask me why, personal reasons.)
But Still, YOUR KENSHIN/TEEN TITANS Crossover pic is AWESOME!!^^

Hm, yeah, but it's the "canon" pairing of both RK and TT, so I'm kinda appeasing the rabid R/S shippers. XP (I'd personally ship Robin with someone else, but eh.)
Thank you very much!

Good job on Robin and Beastboy, but Starfire looks funny, if you don't mind me saying so. It seems like her body is too big for her head. Otherwise, it looks like you put a lot of work and thought into this drawing, so that in itself deserves a round of applause.
And there was much clapping.
