"Mythology"
A.k.a. "Shameless Stylistic Appropriation, Part II", or What I (like to) Think Would Happen If Amano Yoshitaka Was An Avatard.
First, apologies. Sorry for falling behind on the Zutara Week prompts! I was miserably sick all of Friday, and spent Saturday recovering and then going out to Takikawa for much-needed summer shopping. Please accept this ridiculously elaborate sketch as my penance.
As soon as I saw "Mythology" as a prompt, I thought of Amano Yoshitaka and his magnificent watercolors and oils, with their strange, floating dreamscapes and elegant beings levitating amongst swirls of color.
My previous attempt to recreate his style is thumbnailed in my dA icon. Here's my second completed try. I can only hope it even begins to measure up to the master, though I doubt it...
And it was just like the sun
But more like the moon.
A light that can reach it all...
So when you say forever,
Can't you see you've already captured me.

This is so beautiful! What did you use to make it? Water color? Anyway it is very nice.

The lines were done in 2B mechanical pencil on unlined notepaper, then scanned at a high contrast and tinted sepia brown. The coloring is 100% digital, done on Artweaver with my Wacom tablet.

Thank you! Her hair didn't turn out as delicate as I wanted, but the soft coloring is pretty close to Amano, I think.

Stunning elegance! I love that someone associated this theme with Amano; they go very well together, and this is a great depiction of the two in that kind of style

I totally caught the reference before I read your comments. I think the style works stunningly for Katara, Zuko may not be as Amano looking (though still very rad, of course).
Gorgeous piece. I love how delicate the lines are, the color combination, the composition with the swirl of hair at the top... really, stunning work. Perhaps being sick can be inspiring in its own way?

Awesome! Yeah, the last time I did Amano work, I inked it and the lines came out too thick, so this time I just left the pencilwork and upped the contrast to make sure it stood out enough.
(Zuko's look is based on Amano's men-in-armor paintings, like [link] and [link]
