Adeline: Sir Handel? What's the matter?
Sir Handel: Adeline... you're really good at keeping secrets, aren't you?
Adeline: Well, I have to be. It's part of my job description for the MoD.
Sir Handel: (sigh) Promise you won't mention what I'm about to say?
Adeline: I... (she looks deep into Sir Handel's eyes) Okay, I promise. What's on your mind.
Sir Handel: Well... you know how Peter Sam was freaking out about 'The Duke'?
Adeline: Yes. He mentioned it quite a few times since that lakeside loop line opened. Why?
Sir Handel: Our Duke... was an engine.
(Adeline gave a quiet gasp)
Adeline: Go on, Sir Handel.
Sir Handel: He wasn't one of the Great Western engines Duck mentioned. Instead, he was a narrow gauge engine like us, named after His Grace the Duke of Sodor.
Adeline: Oh... oh! That makes a lot of sense. No wonder Peter Sam was upset and confused. But... why are you telling me and not everyone else?
Sir Handel: I... I was so rattled by what Peter Sam mentioned the day before the centenary, I kept my thoughts internalised. I could barely speak about it. And now... I just had to get this off my boiler. (he started to cry) I... I try so hard to be there for Peter Sam. But... I failed him so many times. First the incline, then the drainpipe and his special funnel... old habits die so hard. I faked ill twice... was rough with the old coaches twice... fouled up with the MoD train and George...
Adeline: We all have our flaws, Sir Handel. But we can improve ourselves.
Sir Handel: Y-you really think so?
Adeline: Of course. I'm due to take out a passenger train in a about 20 minutes. Do you want to double head with me so we can talk more?
Sir Handel: Sure. (he finally cracks a smile) Thank you, Adeline.
Happy birthday, wildnorwester . I know it's a tad early, but my schedule's a bit busy tomorrow and I didn't want to forget to upload this. I wanted to do a little scene with Adeline for a while, and what better scene to do than one with Sir Handel? I mean, he was one of Adeline's biggest supporters in Adeline the Phantom Engine.
