Description
With the completion of Johnson and Lauren by sodormatchmaker , I was able to get this done. This is longer than the diesels one, so hold your iron horses and here we go.1. Thomas
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: The Adventure Begins (Canon special, Classic Sodor Adventures series 1. - adaption of Sad Story of Henry, Edward and Gordon, Thomas and Gordon, Thomas' Train, Thomas and the Trucks and Thomas and the Breakdown Train)
Bio: The cheeky tank engine is the No. 1 and he knows it. He's also fussy and has a bit of a professional streak when it comes to his branch line and his former job as station pilot. He also loves his two coaches, Annie and Clarabel, as if their his big sisters. Thomas is also quite a big brother figure to engines such as his best friend Percy and one of the newer engines, Nia. He never forgot his alliance with Gordon, and it was Thomas himself who was able to help Gordon grieve over his lost brothers and sisters. His rivalry with Stepney was also a major hurdle for him as he revealed a tragic secret about his past. Thomas used to reside at Tidmouth before moving to Ffarqhuar with Percy and Toby. However, a storm blowing down Ffarqhuar sheds caused Thomas, along with Percy, to relocate to Tidmouth once again.
2. Edward
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: North Western Origins (elements of Edward's Day Out, The Trouble with Mud and the TVS take on Bulldog mashed into the story)
Bio: When new to the island, Edward was incredibly timid and shy, and unfortunately, a main target of bullying among 98462 and 87546. His shy steaming most certainly didn't help matters, and he was threatened with scrap under Albert Regaby's chairmanship. Thankfully, Bertram Topham Hatt secretly planned for Edward to be overhauled, and he had two new friends, Gordon and Henry, to give him moral support, as well as the engines currently owned by the NWR at the time. By the time that Thomas came to the island, Edward had become a wise sage and took many of the younger engines under his wing - Percy, Bill & Ben and Phillip being the biggest examples. He's also become an engine that the engines look too for consolations - Duck felt much better after he worked with him after being framed by Diesel, and Douglas was a bit calmer during his dark hours working with Edward. Edward stayed at Wellsworth when more engines started coming to Sodor, and he felt much better about it when BoCo came to stay with him. Though BoCo and Edward had insisted they were friends for a number of years, they started to really think about their situation and realise it was something much more than that. Unfortunately, BoCo being at the Bluebell Railway made a saddened Edward come back to Tidmouth, and it was Phillip who helped him moved back to Wellsworth, not to mention BoCo coming back to Sodor which sealed the deal. He also now has two Furness coaches, Victoria and Helena, once belonging to his old friend Albert from the Furness Railway.
3. Henry
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: North Western Origins (elements of Edward's Day Out, The Trouble with Mud and the TVS take on Bulldog mashed into the story)
Bio: Henry was a flawed prototype from the very start, and he had a lot of trouble getting steam up. It was speculated he was afraid of the rain which was why he stopped in the tunnel, but this was not the case. The reason he was afraid was because a lightning strike almost hit him when on his passenger run, and to cap it all off, he was having steam problems. They got worse after he stayed in the tunnel. Thankfully, Sir Bertram Topham Hatt was able to get Welsh coal to solve Henry's steaming issues, but a crash with the Flying Kipper and subsequent rebuild is what truly saved the day. Henry is now the tamest of the "big engine" trio, and is quite welcoming to newcomers. He now stays at Vicarstown sheds with Bear, Murdoch, Rosie and Dennis.
4. Gordon
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: North Western Origins (elements of Edward's Day Out, The Trouble with Mud and the TVS take on Bulldog mashed into the story)
Bio: Always proud of being the express engine is what Gordon is mostly known for, and he lets everyone know it. He can be a bit insensitive to others sometimes, and say some things he doesn't mean to. But at his core, Gordon has a real heart. He saved Thomas from falling down a mineshaft forever, which made a very strong alliance between the blue engines, he stood up for Henry when Albert Regaby was putting him down, and consoled a much shyer Edward when he was upset at being left in the sheds.
5. James
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: North Western Origins (elements of Edward's Day Out, The Trouble with Mud and the TVS take on Bulldog mashed into the story)
Bio: When James first arrived on Sodor, he wasn't the vain show-off that he is well known to be. He was incredibly timid due to his wooden brake blocks. Edward, seeing it almost like a reflection, took James out for a run with Annie and Clarabel. The then-black engine saw Glynn for the first time, and admired his red paintwork. This may be why he eventually chose it to be his new livery when he was given proper brakes at the Steamworks. Though James can be quite insensitive at times, he can also be quite respectful. One such example is when Skarloey brought home a passenger train with one of his springs giving out, and he gives a small smile as he puffs away.
6. Percy
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: The Adventure Continues - Classic Sodor Adventures series 1 (adaption of James and the Top Hat/Bootlaces, Thomas and the Guard, Troublesome Trucks, Tenders and Turntables, Thomas Goes Fishing, Trouble In the Shed, Percy Runs Away and James and the Express)
Bio: Like Thomas before him, Percy is a very cheeky little tank engine who also just so happened to be mentored by Edward. Percy is also more naïve than Thomas and a bit more skittish - the latter of which may be because of him being bullied by the tank engines at the workshop - but that doesn't mean he can't be brave. One such example is him saving James from a landslide, and another is him competing in the Shunting Challenge. The latter of which not only had him take first place but set a new record. He also had his moments of being grumpy too, such as standing up to Daisy when he got into an accident, and when he and Julie were working at the coal mines and got incredibly dusty. Like Thomas and Toby, Percy used to reside at Tidmouth before transferring to Ffarqhuar, then after Ffarqhuar sheds blew down, he and Thomas relocated back to Tidmouth.
7. Toby.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: The Adventure Carries On - Classic Sodor Adventures series 1/2 (adaption of Toby and the Stout Gentleman, Thomas in Trouble, Coal, Dirty Objects, Mrs. Kyndley's Christmas, The Flying Kipper, Saved From Scrap and Gordon's Whistle/Henry's Sneeze - Whistles and Sneezes)
Bio: In Toby's younger days, he was quite cheeky and feisty, not unlike Thomas and Percy, always bustling around the harbour to get trains ready for other engines. When he got older, he began to mellow out, and this only grew when he met his future love, Henrietta. When the two were purchased for Sodor, Toby and Henrietta couldn't have been happier. Toby made a good first impression on Thomas when he startled the policeman, and he and Thomas brought their coaches over to Mrs. Kyndley to wish her a merry Christmas when she was sick. Toby had also taken Mavis under his wing as a daughter figure, and is very proud of the engine she is today. Like Thomas and Percy, Toby resided at Tidmouth at first, but when Ffarqhuar sheds blew over, Toby relocated to live at the Ffarquhar quarry sheds with Mavis.
8. Montague "Duck"
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Little Engines Can Do Big Things - Classic Sodor Adventures series 2
(adaption of Percy and the Trousers/A Scarf for Percy, Percy and the Signal, Duck Takes Charge, Henry the Hero, Thomas and Trevor, Better Late Than Never, Percy and Harold and Percy's Promise)
Bio: Montague wasn't the biggest fan of his built name; it sounded too posh for a small tank engine such as himself. When he helped to save some children during an air raid, he was going so fast that he was almost waddling, and they called him a duck, which lead to him insisting on others calling him "Duck" from that point on. His first day on Sodor was far from uneventful, as he, Percy and Henry blocked Gordon and James out of the shed for mocking him for his nickname, but his actions made Gordon and James stop the teasing. He had a much bigger obstacle when Diesel entered the fray, and told lies about him. Duck was sure he would never want to see Diesel ever again, but when he returned, Duck was surprised to see he was a hard worker. He was so impressed in fact, that Duck felt content with leaving the yards in Diesel's buffers when he went to his branch line. Since then, a mutual respect and eventual friendship had struck. Duck also has a close friendship with Donald and Douglas, though he feels a bit closer to the former as they have a shared enjoyment for harmless pranks. Duck was also thrilled to have his cousin Oliver come to Sodor, and the two hit it off like a house on fire. Duck eventually gets his "slippies" to work with, Alistair, Mirabel and Benjamin, which he shares with his sister Jackie.
9 and 10. Donald and Douglas.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Never Be Alone - Classic Sodor Adventures - series 3 (adaption of Old Iron, Skarloey Remembers, "Hullo Twins", The Missing Coach, (A Bad Day For) Sir Handel, Peter Sam and the Refreshment Lady, Brake Van, Old Faithful, The Deputation and Thomas and the Missing Christmas Tree)
Bio: Donald and Douglas have one of the strongest bonds of any twins ever. They love working alongside each other and win the hearts of many engines of the island of Sodor. Their backstory is one of the toughest of any of the Sudrains though - Donald was purchased for Sodor while Douglas was almost left on the scrap lines. Donald had managed to smuggle Douglas over to the island, but it was only thanks to Duck's intervention that managed to leave a hole in Sir Topham Hatt's plans to send Douglas back. The twins are very grateful to Duck for his deputation, and to Henry and Edward for keeping them calm in their time of distress. Donald eventually found himself being an owner of a duckling named Dilly thanks one of Duck's pranks, and Donald got back at him with an egg which hatched into another duckling named Dallas. Douglas meanwhile found himself being on the rescuing end of the coin when he saved Oliver and Toad from scrap, and Oliver is eternally grateful, but is that all there is to Oliver and Douglas' relationship...?
11. Oliver.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Resource and Sagacity - Classic Sodor Adventures - series 4 (adaption of Escape, Resource and Sagacity/Oliver Owns Up and Toad Stands By
Bio: Oliver's arrival to Sodor wasn't an easy one. He had to rush through many diesels who were on the prowl to find him to be cut up for scrap. However, he did have some help. One was a friendly diesel numbered 7101 - eventually dubbed Bear by him - who turned a blind eye. The other was one of the Caledonian twins, Douglas, who brought him and Toad to their sanctuary. Oliver has also proven to be one to not mess around with - he tore Scruffey a new one, literally. Oliver is incredibly close with his cousin Duck, and he missed Isabel and Dulcie dearly, even though he knew they were in good buffers on Amanda Hatt's heritage railway, and is overjoyed to have them with him on Sodor, sharing them with his cousin Katrina. He also is close with the Scottish twins, Douglas in particular, but is it only because he saved his life...?
12. Emily.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Bear to the Rescue - Series 5 redux
Bio: Like Douglas and Oliver before her, Emily had a narrow miss with the cutter's torch. Unlike Douglas and Oliver, Emily never took it upon herself to avoid her fate and was left to rust in a siding, as well as having many of her parts cut off her over the years. Bear had managed to save her, but this left her with a lot of unresolved issues, especially as it took roughly two years to be completely restored. In her first couple of years, she was quite friendly, but memories of her past, coupled with hearing both Douglas and Oliver's stories, made her go into a bossy phase as a coping mechanism, and it pushed her away from several of the engines. She eventually manages to reground herself (haven't figured it out yet), and is the sister figure the engines all knew. She also has her coaches, Martha and Julian and eventually Gladys.
13. Harriet/Barry
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Season 8 redux (undecided)
Bio: (WIP). Harriet is a gentle souled engine when she was on loan for helping out when the engines went to London, but - as well as changing her name to Barry - her time in the scrapyard had hardened her views on diesels. She works on the Great Waterton branch line with Jinty and Pug.
14. Charlie
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Stanley and Charlie - Series 13-16 redux (Play Time rewrite)
Bio: Charlie is quite the joker to be sure, and when he first arrived, seemed to turn the yard into his playground, much to Stanley's - and everyone else's - frustrations. Thankfully, he now buckles down and works hard, but in some of the engine's minds, he's the least reliable of the current station pilots when he pulls pranks, such as shunting fish trucks to the back of Gordon's express.
15. Julie
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: A Better View for Gordon - Series 5 redux.
Bio: If you thought Phillip was a bundle of energy, you ain't met Julie yet. Once her fire's going, she starts bustling around the yards like no tomorrow, as if it's the most enjoyable thing in the world. Only Nicole could really keep her in line, which made things difficult for Lauren and Johnson when Nicole and Katie left for Amanda Hatt's Heritage Railway. She also is quite cheeky, as she made a song about her and Percy being "put upon" at the coal mines.
16. Clarence/Arthur
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: The Spotless Record - Series 6/7 redux (to be written)
Bio: Back when Arthur was a tender engine known at Clarence, he was very reckless and lazy, and once such accident had him change his ways and his name. He is now a very proper and professional engine, sometimes taking it to the extreme which can lead to him being bossy sometimes. Arthur is very grateful to have Molly to be with on the branch line to help calm him down and get back in line.
17. Murdoch.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Peace and Quiet - Series 6/7 redux (to be written)
Bio: Murdoch is a very quiet engine, often not speaking unless he's been spoken to first. He much prefers goods work over passengers as he doesn't like hustle and bustle of busy stations. While loud noises can irritate him, his quiet nature also makes him a very good lister and he is a metaphorical shoulder to cry on. He and Bear used to reside at Tidmouth sheds, but when Ffarqhuar sheds had blown over, the two kindly give their berths to Thomas and Percy and move up to Vicarstown.
18. Nia.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Thomas and Nia / Emily and the Great Railway Show - The International Railway Series (adaption of Big World, Big Adventures with a few original stories)
Bio: A very bubbly, loyal, charismatic and cheeky tank engine hailing from Kenya, Nia was easily able to win over Thomas when they first met after the latter wound up in Africa by mistake. However, under her cheery demeanour was a harsh past. She had been badly abused by a cruel manager, and Thomas was determined to rid her railway of her old controller and give her a better life. Nia did get a better life on Sodor, and loved being part of Thomas' branch line, which had built up in traffic since the Ulstead extension and since Daisy had been moved to Harwick. It was thanks to Toby, Annie and Clarabel that Nia learned how to read numbers properly, and she also took resident at Tidmouth sheds where Edward left his berth vacant. Though Gordon was VERY upset with someone else taking Edward's berth, he eventually saw sense and welcomed Nia with open buffers.
19. Johnson.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: A Better View for Gordon - Series 5 redux.
Bio: Of the Midland engines, Johnson was the grumpy bear. Though with a hyperactive engine, an engine who often daydreamed and an engine who seemed a bit scatter-brained sometimes, could you really blame him? On top of that, the aforementioned engines plus Nicole were all girls! Johnson can be a bit temperamental at times, but he's a real softie if you get to know him right.
20. Hurricane.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Journey Beyond Sodor rewrite (to be written)
Bio: Hurricane may seem like an engine to be intimidated by, but despite his name, he's kind, brave and loyal to a fault. Unfortunately, his loyalty was to a manipulative liar named Frankie, and the two would trap engines against their will. The more Hurricane did this however, the less inclined he was willing to try again. By the time they got to capturing James and - almost - Henry - he'd had enough, and wanted out of the steelworks. Henry, seeing how genuinely sorry he was, offered for him to come to Sodor. Hurricane accepted, and now he works on the Peel Godred branch line if the electric engines are broken down. Other times, Hurricane works as a utility engine all over the railway alongside Scottish twins Donald and Douglas.
21. Laruen.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: A Better View for Gordon - Series 5 redux.
Bio: Laruen is the gentlest of the trio of Midland engines that remained behind on Sodor, but she can be a bit of a daydreamer, which can get her distracted at times. She can have a heck of a time keeping Johnson and Julie in check on the Kirk Ronan branch line, and having three coaches that can be a bit fussy, Audrey, Hilary and Mark, can give her a bit of a headache.
22. Rebecca.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Gordon and the New Engines - The International Railway Series (adaptions of Forever and Ever, Confusion Without Delay, Counting on Nia and two original stories)
Bio: If there was a cinnamon roll of the Sudrian Fleet, it's Rebecca, no questions about it. She's very whimsical, excitable and has a very big heart. Underneath this is a layer of tragedy though, she lost her sister Miranda to a horrible accident. Thanks to Gordon and Nia, Rebecca was able to get through her sadness and overcome her fear of going to the works so she could get her repaint.
23. Jinty.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Series 12 redux (undecided)
Bio: (WIP). Jinty is unfortunately not the most thoughtful engine to have been constructed on the LMS. She often speaks before considering what the other engines may think of her words, and can be quite careless sometimes. However, at one point, she had a deep rooted insecurity. She had a lot of trouble "coming out" as a girl to the point where she was mocked by other engines into using "he" pronouns. Unfortunately, her friends at Barrow didn't realise this, and referred to her as male pronouns. It took the convincing of [we're still deciding who] before she finally came clean. An overhaul ensued shortly after this, and she had officially been built as a girl. She works at the Great Waterton branch line with Barry and Pug.
24. Ryan.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure (Canon special)
Bio: When Ryan first came to Sodor, he was very overconfident and dismissive of those around him, to the point where he went too fast with Annie and Clarabel and passed a warning sign which resulted in a near collision with Toby. This humbled him greatly and he is now an affirmable and dependable engine on the Harwick branch line. He can be a bit gullible sometimes, as he took the mail van when Daisy tricked him to doing so, but he has a big heart and wants everyone to be happy.
25. Pug
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Series 12 redux (undecided)
Bio: (WIP). Pug is definitely the more thoughtful and calmer one of himself and Jinty. He also has a bit of a deadpan snarker sense of humour, and is a bit of a fan of animals. He made friends with a local shed cat who lived at Barrow, and wishes there was some furry company at Great Waterton as well.
26. Amanda "Mandy".
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Series 8 redux (undecided)
Bio: (WIP). Once hailing from an industry, the nameless tank engine was brought over to Amanda Hatt's heritage railway. The two of them had such similar demeanours that Amanda decided to name the tank engine after her. Amanda is always up for a bit of gossip, and unfortunately, this can sometimes land her into a bit of trouble.
27. Harvey.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Harvey to the Rescue - Series 6/7 redux (to be written)
Bio: Very cheery and big hearted, Harvey tends to befriend pretty much everyone he meets, though he is easily upset if someone speaks illy of his crane arm. He's also an engine who is gentle and thoughtful, and is willing to help anyone out of a jam.
28. Simpson "Scruff"
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Mistaken Identity - Series 13-16 redux (Thomas and Scruff)
Bio: A bit feisty and always willing to get his paintwork dirty, Scruff will jump buffer first into his job at the waste dump. He did cause quite a stir for Den and Dart though, as they assumed he was a diesel at first. He's like a little brother to Whiff, who is appreciative of his help.
29. Belle.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Backlogged - Series 13-16 redux (Victor Says Yes)
Bio: Originally a passenger engine, Belle was modified to be a firefighter at the Search and Rescue Centre. She's very bold, highly self assertive and a bit overwhelming to some people and engines alike, but she will stop at nothing to put out fires and save both strangers and dear friends alike.
30. Sonny.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Sonny the Well-Tank Engine - The International Railway Series (Adaption of A New Arrival World of Tomorrow and Sonny's Second Chance)
Bio: Sonny is a complicated engine. While a bit of an outsider, he often follows along to whatever orders he has been given from his superiors, unfortunately landing him at the hands of Baz and Bernie's scheming minds. During his time at the ownership of the two thieves, Sonny displayed tendencies to be gruff, sinister and rude, repelling other engines. However, after some much needed kind words and actions, the well-tank engine turned over a new leaf, standing up to the thieves and working hard to be really useful, as well as willing to tell the truth if needed. Although he is sometimes distrusted for his past sins, Sonny has proven to be trustworthy and reliable, making him a true asset to the North Western Railway.
31. Porter
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Away From the Sea - Canon Series 17 episode
Bio: Very kind and full of self confidence, Porter is an engine who loves the sea just as much as Salty. He's also quite witty and loves to joke around with others, and full of compassion when other engines are in doubt of themselves.
32/40. Stanley
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: The Great Discovery rewrite (to be rewritten)
Bio: Stanley is a bit of a "boy next door" who is always willing to tackle whatever job he is given, goods, passengers, shunting, he doesn't mind. He can also be a bit ambitious and very serious when it comes to his work, something which he makes very clear to Charlie on his first day. Of the station pilots, he is usually the first the engines turn to if they need to arrange a train. Well, him and Stafford, but Stafford can be hard to find sometimes.
33/45. Katrina.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: The International Railway Series (undecided)
Bio: Katrina was always the more hardworking of him and Oliver back in their days of their branch line, keeping a cooler head and was better suited to handling goods traffic than Oliver was. However, she has a special secret. She has the ability to talk to deceased engines at will. While other engines can only see them vaguely through dreams, Katrina uses her ability to try and help those who had died to find peace in the afterlife. (Sidenote, I think she's like the Morning Roast of the SeventyVerse)
34. Jaqueline "Jackie".
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: The International Railway Series (undecided)
Bio: Of all of Duck's siblings, Jackie was the one he was the closest to at Paddington. The two of them would get into little challenges to see who could shunt trains the quickest and most efficiently. This did sometimes lead to conflict among each other and the other engines around them. When Duck left, Jackie was saddened to see him go, but did her best to keep the legacy alive. She eventually met a sweet little 08 by the name of Paxton, and she helped him improve his shunting skills. It was also thanks to Paxton that she started to let go of any animosity she had to diesels, and so, life began to click with Paxton and Jackie. Unfortunately, Jackie was due to be withdrawn, but Paxton's quick thinking got her sent to London Transport where she'd be safe from harm. She eventually wound up on Amanda Hatt's heritage railway where she was reunited with the slippies as well as Katrina, Isabel and Dulcie. However, Jackie has not forgiven Diesel for the lies he had spread about her brother...
35/56. Marvin/Molly.
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Series 9/10 redux (Molly's Special Special rewrite)
Bio: First built under the name Marvin and as a boy, the tender engine had a hard life. For some reason, Marvin just couldn't find self worth. Some days, he seemed fine, mostly thanks to some engines' kindness, but other days, he wanted to commit self scrapping. That all changed one day when Marvin was rebuilt and somehow was made a girl. She renamed herself Molly, after her driver, and was much happier from then on. She became a sisterly figure to those of the island of Sodor, and maintains a close bond with Arthur and Sidney on the Norramby branch line, as well as Toby, who she knew from her days on the LNER.
36/66. William "Whiff"
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Series 11 redux (Emily's Rubbish rewrite)
Bio: A very optimistic and hardworking engine, Whiff, like Scruff, will always jump into the most smelliest of jobs on the island of Sodor. Though not even close to being the first engine on Sodor, Whiff is very interested in learning about Sodor's history, for he is a replica of an engine built long before many of the current fleet's time period.
37. Rosie
First permanent resident appearance on Sodor: Series 9/10 redux (Thomas and the Birthday Mail rewrite)
Bio: Responsible, hardworking and feisty are the best words to describe our little tank engine. One painted in lavender due to seeing some beautiful ribbons in Annabelle's daughter's hair that she liked, some may think of her as a total girly girl. But she's actually a bit of a tomboy, tackling very heavy goods trains on Thomas' branch line - for branch line standards anyway. Her driver's daughter absolutely loves horses, and after she was given a cherry red livery which inspired her daughter to buy a matching saddle pad for her free lease horse Champ, Rosie had kept her new livery since. It did spark a rivalry with James however...
Whew! That's all 37 of these engines. Some of the bios are a bit incomplete, and Zack, feel free to correct me if I've got anything wrong.
