Description
Edit: I forgot to update this. I saw Veronica Taylor at New York Comic Con and I got her autograph!Click here to listen to Green Hill Zone while you read this!
It is a story that we have known before we could form words in our mouths. 1991 was the year when SEGA decided to release their iconic figure into the public. A blue chubby little hedgehog with spikes and red shoes. With SEGA releasing their prized mascot on June 23rd of 1991, Super Mario had a rival. Nintendo mascot had a fight on his hands with his adventures within the 8-bit world. SEGA's blue mascot had a greater edge than Mario during that time era as he introduced gamers to a better system with superior graphics and a faster engine. But no matter the impact Sonic had on the industry, he had a far greater impact on the childhood of millions of gamers. With his very first game on the shelves, what child or teenager didn't want their own SEGA Genesis? Waking up on Christmas mourning with a huge genesis box with Sonic on the side.
Sonic fans stick closer to each other because of the impact Sonic had on our lives. It's had a huge impact that some people dress as characters at conventions, collect figurines, buy every game, and watch every cartoon with his face on it. We've grown to love this creature and those kids who experienced that time of grace have now grown up. turning into adults can still reminisce on the series and the impact it will always have! YU2 and his companions have had one of the greatest impacts on the game world. Even stronger than Miyamoto's Super Mario. But times change, and sometimes that road can get a lil' bumpy when you decide to traverse a certain path.
The world of SEGA still resonates today, each person who picks up a controller or a handheld enter the worlds and vast locations of South Island, Mobius, Green Hill zone, the toxic power plant of Chemical Plant zone, the Angel Island, the Death Egg and even Earth! For what could have been just a mere itch in the game world decided to spread and last for 10 years, it seems that itch didn't want to go away. Sonic continued and introduced more gamers into the franchise. New gamers picking up the controller and running in a vast lush 3D environment trying to reach the end of a stage. Unaware of the core elements that made SEGA and Sonic the team they are. Some people can't even fathom the devices that were created by the industry. Some have never seen a SEGA PicoDrive or even a SEGA GameGear. These devices will live on. But these young fans are still apart of the fanbase and most of them can't even tell the difference between the western and canon parts of the franchise. Whether Sonic's eyes are blue, green yellow or even violet, this is Sonic the Hedgehog. His eye color doesn't determine who he is. SEGA could have pulled a "Crash Bandicoot" on Sonic and made him look extremely hideous and "hijacking robots". (you blew it Bandicoot, you had a fan and you lost one after your last decent title Wrath of Cortex)
the 10th Anniversary marked the Hedgehog's biggest highlight in his life, he was going strong and runnin' wild in 3d environments in a series known as Sonic Adventure. Two games which provided the hedgehog with different platforming elements. With Sonic Adventure 2 on the rise of that time period, SEGA release quite a few products on the market suck as a commemorative coin, a CD soundtrack with the best music of the series and even some sort of coin. A recreation of Green hill Zone was included in the game which tributes the original game by letting a player explore the very first level known to man in a Sonic game.
The 15th anniversary marked Sonic's first appearance in HD. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gave us a game that looked promising. But was it truly going to be glorious? Afraid not Sonic fans, this game was by far the worst in the series with its broken level design and glitches worst than a trojan virus. The graphics were decent but the trailers we seen from SEGA were false. We were suppose to be granted with Sonic racing through fantastic realms, battling AWESOME enemies! but overall we were presented with an unfinished game. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG had GREAT potential but overall it failed miserable and SEGA should have been ashamed to call that an anniversary game. From hear on end, most of the titles began to suffer from mediocre gameplay and storylines.
When it comes to the gameplay,we've seen a lot of retarded ideas:
The series needs to focus on speed! NO! This eliminates platforming
They should make the levels linear and design them like race tracks!! GODDAMN NO!
Robotnik needs to summon an ancient monster to defeat Sonic. NOOO! This is common boring factor you see in an average anime.
Having all of these redundant ideas don't help the series. The monstrosity of Sonic Unleashed had hope but need to realize that running through linear paths and holding the forward button IS NOT what Sonic the Hedgehog is all about. Sonic the Hedgehog games are about platforming, exploration and running at fast speeds in certain pints of your gameplay experience. The inclusion of Sonic becoming a werehog was by far the dumbest shit SEGA could have though of. (were you watching a Scooby-Doo episode during development, Iizuka? So what's the big secret, you're not wearing pants? hmmm) Players are introduced to a Ratchet & Clank mock up of battling hoards of enemies with bogus moves and slow framerate. As Ratchet And Clank games are known for battling constant groups of alien beings and giant monsters which over powered weapons, the game's framrate REFUSED to drop since those segments contain at least over 20 enemies sometimes. (Oh yeah, I dare you to slow down on me, when I'm in the process of blowin' shit up with my Negotiaor!) SEGA tries to mock this with Wolf Sonic constantly encountering Gaia monsters which FORCES you to fight them with button mashing segments and super COOL COMBOS! The night segments were the epitomize the platforming side of the game. Fans are satisfied with 50% of this games and Some LOVE it completely.
Most fans believe Sonic's linear paths are what the series should focus on. So then if this is true, then were is the platforming elements that allow you to think and provide exploration? Ultimately, the future games correct this as demonstrated in Sonic Colors. A game which ultimately brings Sonic back to to gamers and most fans giving them hope for a brighter future.
Now, here we are at the dawning of a new era. Sonic's 20th birthday. Sonic has been through a rough time involving mediocre games, fans who nitpick over his eye color and even those who will ignore a Sonic title because his eyes are green. Having some of the best games and by far the worst ones, Sonic Generations looks to be a celebration for all Sonic Fans. Looking at the Green Hill zone in vibrant and exquisite visuals, this game looks to be one hell of a birthday gift for it's fans and Sonic himself! We can reminisce on the good times we've experienced with our controllers and the defeats we suffered hoping a new Sonic game would provide us with satisfaction. I mean, last I checked Sonic's model being called "Modern Sonic" sounds so ignorant. Last, I remember Sonic the Hedgehog WAS a classic. Do you hear Nintendo fans calling Mario "Classic Mario"? Or mixing him with his ugly 1985 alter ego? No, because deep inside no matter how Sonic or Mario will look, deep within the core of those characters ARE Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario. (*coughs* best game ever made)
The Sonic series has always been one hell of a road for us fans and we will continue to follow down that path and hope for the best. So today, if you have a SEGA Genesis or even a Saturn and play some Sonic today. Don't pull a Todd and play MarioKart Wii!
Happy Birthday Sonic.
The reason why I choose Daisy AGAIN was because I can't draw Sonic. with the way the fanbase exploits itself, it is hard form me to enjoy Sonic games. when I seen the Sonic Genesis reboot comic cover I saw how modernized and beautiful the cover was drawn. It was glorious! I had to do the same thing. I added more Green hill elements onto the image with the inclusion of the flower models and even a broken newt robot. So with that said, m friend gave me an Ampharos image she randomly came across and I sketched it from my TV. I've been doing mos of my artwork on my TV since I can blow up images or things I need and I sketch it on my dresser.
It was a fun experience. I like the Mareep evolution as well so substituting Jazmin with Daisy was easy. Drawing Daisy's features are already imbedded mentally since I've don't it for quite sometime now. So here I present Daisy with another fully evolved Pokemon. Ampharos is a Pokemon of the electric element. The sparks of electricity surrounding Daisy and Ampharos just shows how powerful it is. And of course, Daisy's shorts can barely stay on her. Look at that...black panties! Victoria Secret, Spring Catalog, page 27...girl got class!
In conclusion this is my image to show my appreciation towards the series. It's modeled to mimic the Genesis boxart in a way and I used a font style from a classic game. What game is that from?
More pokemon pin-ups and levels
credits for this image as I don't take all of the credit. But it's drawn and sketched by myself

I'm really sorry that I've been so inactive for such a long time, College really got to me and I've been so swamped with work that I never have the time to check out deviations any more so once again really sorry! >< I've been inducted into the PTK and I've won a lot of awards and scholarships. Any way to keep the debt light.
I guess this is a consequence to being a black woman in the Bronx trying her best to receive all the support she could? I dunno. But I'm trying! And it's working!
This is so amazing! The details are fantastic, I can look at it for hours! The pose, the setting, the expressions, everything is completely superb! I adore the description! I'm a huge fan of sonic but ironically, I'm not keeping up with his games.><
Your comment really had me thinking back to the old days when I would watch my brothers play the sonic game. We could never beat the lava level though! Nowadays I would just look at quick walkthroughs and commentaries when I'm drawing. It's so nice to reminisce. Very warm feeling in you, I can't explain it. I'm not fond of his newest games though, lol.
Anyways, I'm gonna try more harder to see your work, and when I have the time, I'll try to see any new stories you may have put into your gallery recently.

Hey, it's nice to see you again. I forgot you left since it's been a long time. You're very smart from what I read: receiving scholarships for school is a damn good way to get that money. I wish I woulda did that but I'm just too lazy to get good things my way unless I want it to come my way.
That's good thing and you can set examples by what your doing.
As far as stories goes, I'm indeed working on a new one. However, it's been on hiatus because of school so yeah, I'm in that same boat. The name of it is Following a Maiden's voyage and all of the details are on that post.
Glad to hear from you and keep up the good work. Spring is almost here so you'll be out and on vacation.

Hey!
Thank you very much for understanding~ I try my best to do whatever I can.
When I have the time, I'll make sure to check out your Maiden series!
You're right, spring is coming just around the corner. My mom is making me transfer for a BFA after I get my AAS in May, so I will still be pretty busy preparing myself.
And lol!

sorry i wrote so much. got carried away on a rant (silly me )
You're so good at drawing, that I question why you say you can't draw Sonic. Once you practice it a few times, its really easy. I say you should give it a try. And if you do, please send me a link. I would love to see it. And it would make a much better tribute to Sonic than a Nintendo princess in Green Hill.
And about what you said: I can't agree more. But there will always be bad games. Let's hope that there will be less failures in the future. You are a true fan and have my full support and respect. I would like to let you know that my gallery will be full of Sonic once I figure out how to color with Gimp.
Although, I can't draw in realistic detail the way you can, we fans can always share one thing: a mutual respect for a certain Blue Blur. I often feel like I cannot say enough on this topic, but I think that you pretty much covered it all. Sonic really is a very successful franchise despite how most say (as my entire scout troop says) "sonic needs to die while he still has a shred of dignity" I truly disagree with this statement and hope he will be around for my kids. btw I especially like what you said about the eyes. It's really pathetic. (what some people say is pathetic that is)
My opinion of Sonic is that we need the high speed action of colors. It's now part of what defines a Sonic game. but we also need large, complex maps like in S3&K so we can explore more (maybe not as big, but obvious alternate routes wouldn't be bad). We also do need intense platforming action. It's all what defines Sonic (as you said): Speed, exploration, and platforming. But we must keep in mind, when we buy a Sonic game (main series) what you need to expect is speed. don't expect anything else unless it's new and more was promised. I've had fun playing most of these to some degree (not 06. can't get used to xbox controls. too tough), but that's the point of a game. to have fun playing it. for example: werehog stages would be great for their own series away from sonic. they have their own appeal. We shouldn't criticize every Sonic game because it's not what we're used to. We should be open to other possibilites (they're endless *unleashed reference lol*) and just try to have fun.
In conclusion, try to have fun playing these games, and stop being so critical. Happy Birthday, Sonic. You are, truly and undeniably, WAY PAST COOL!!!

Now that I think about,Sonic did lead the way through gaming.Coming up with amazing and colorful games,Ive always loved him deeply...maybe even a bit more than Mario Ill never know. But me and my brothers have always found Sonic more addictive and more frustrating to play unlike Mario in which is more easier I mean I completed Super Mario Galaxy 2 in 3 days and I havent been able to clear a Sonic game on my own without my little brother to help.
Anyway to the pic.I find Daisy adorable and cute. Also I love the background and the shading.I really love the little touches of colour as well but youve kept it to a minimumich is good Anyway I hope you keep up the good work!

I just had to say to someone here that it warms my heart to see true fans that just want to enjoy Sonic. My little bro actually (sadly T_T) beat me to the punch with clearing SA2B for gamecube. I really can't beat the DS games (s ranks are harder than A ranks from SA2B) or the Riders games (too many missions) some of these do truly frustrate me, but I enjoy most of them. (Not 06. can't get used to xbox controller. see below for my full rant lol) but seriously, do you not agree?

Wow, I only played a bit of the original Sonic at my orthodontist's office, but I can recognize much of the Green Hill Zone bit in there between that and the Smash Bros. Brawl stage! Ampharos is SO adorable, and I love the lipstick mark on its cheek and that glow on the end of its tail! =3 I love Daisy's face in that screen, and how possessive she looks of Ampharos. Cute outfit design, as usual! =3
Our main experience with Sonic was the Sonic Adventure games on Dreamcast, though Red also has some classic Sonic games on a system other than the Genesis.

It is easy to access Sonic games now. All you have to do is make sure you have internet access and you can get Sonic 1, 2, 3 or Sonic and Knuckles from the Nintendo Shop Channel. Let alone, the same titles are one Xbox Live. Let's not forget about Sonic's Ultimate Genesis collection. SEGA is making sure they port those games on EVERY system it seems. Oh, the irony. But the best port I've played were the ones on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
I love Daisy's face in that screen, and how possessive she looks of Ampharos
That is because she has the one with the intensity of a thousand suns (Fairly Oddparents jk.) But I really want to make her facial expression a bit more like, "don't fuck with us or it's a dose of thunder for you, bub." I did have a smile on her face but I felt that a serious expression would be more dangerous since it's sparking electricity around itself alongside Daisy.
I'm definitely going to draw more Pokemon for sure. I'm probably going to go for some legendary choices. But for now I have to work on this hentai image for my friend. If you do have my url address where thosethose types of images are posted then you'll probably see it by the end of this week or next for sure. Thanks for your comment, you one of the reasons, I keep drawing Daisy, I still owe you and my other friend those images. I ain't forget. Just need to get other image projects done first.

This brought back some memories for me. Though I have to say, I didn't come into gaming until the beginning of the 3D era, with Crash Bandicoot and Sonic Adventure. So I was never very big on the old 2D Sonic games. The first time I actually saw or heard of Sonic was in his T.V. show, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Which was with the old chubby black eyed Sonic that I grew up with.
Speaking of his games, like I said, my first Sonic Game was Adventure DX for gamecube. However I did give all of his older games a try. It's been years since I've played them, but last I tried I wasn't too fond of them. I would always get hit or die from a creature I didn't see coming because I was running to fast. Then just jumping up to the current games, I've never played Sonic '06, but I've seen videos and read reviews and I can see that a lot of people didn't like it, and you fall through the floor for no reason a lot. Sonic Unleashed was pretty good. Though I only liked the day time levels, because it began to fulfill my dreams of running insanely fast. I didn't really like Sonic Colors though. The wisps just ticked me off. I didn't like having to rely on them to get by areas or things like that. I was also a bit disappointed that you ran slower than in Unleashed, but I understand that it dealt with the system hardware. I saw a tailor for Sonic Generations, and it does look promising. However my faith with Sonic has been shaken, so I won't be jumping to conclusions until I can get my hands on a demo.

I honestly, don't blame you for how you feel about the Sonic games recently. After Sonic Heroes, I don't know what happened. That game did have platforming elements but it got annoying constantly rotating back and fourth to a flying character of a power character. I do like the creative levels such as Hang Castle and Mystic Mansion. I was utterly fooled believing Bullet Station was the final level. It had a good plot indeed. I liked it. But it could get frustrating at times.
I never really got into Mario until Mario 64. now that game was bad, man. The Wing Cap theme and the Bomb-Omb Battlefield will always remain embedded in my memory. The first 3D game I was ever introduced to was crash Bandicoot 2. I never got the the first game until I got 3. And I have to say the physics in part 1 were terrible compared to the second one. Not to mention getting a gem was just so repetitive if you were one who died. The Cortex Power level...biggest mind fuck ever...I believe the second game had the best momentum to it. Part 3 was sometimes iffy when it came to those "certain jumps" But overall I liked all 3 games. I really enjoyed CTR. That game was the only Mario Kart clone I loved. It was faster, and it was more fun. not to mention My girl Coco burned rubber on that game. She was the first character I immediately looked for in the Adventure Mode and let alone I beat Crash Bash with her. R.I.P Crash Bandicoot 1996-2002.
But all I can say regarding Sonic is that I hope the series shapes up. That's all I ask. The fanbase is the worst too. goddamn, it's pitiful.

I got my hands on a Sonic Generations demo, and I have to say, I was impressed. While I could only do a 2D Green Hill Zone, I was humming to the music and feeling like a little kid again. It hit me so hard that I actually broke out my gamecube and played Sonic 1 on my Sonic MegaCollection disc.
After playing the demo, I think the Sonic Generations may be a pretty decent bridge to get old and new fans, maybe. Speaking of the fanbase, a lot of them are really mean, and follow you for making one Sonic image, then leave and never tell you when you put up something else. It is indeed pitiful.

Love the picture Todd. Great work as always. I wish I could go into detail about the classic sonics but that last time I played those was when I was like 5 or 6. I've basically lived in the 3D world of Sonic but I've never seen it as bad as some of the other people say it is. Maybe it's because I wasn't a part of the classic Sonic but I've liked everygame that has been put out with Sonic's name on it. Not saying that they didn't have their problems(cause a lot of them did, and many of them lol) but over all I enjoyed a lot of games that are looked down upon.
A few examples are Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic Heroes. I love Sonic Heroes actually because it was really platform heavy and I love platforming games, I really want a sequel but I know that it will never come because of the reaction it received from the community.
And what's funny to me was that some people here were complaining about the werehog but the werehog was the platforming segment of Sonic Unleashed which reminded me of Sonic Heroes. The real Sonic was the speed part and the werehog was the platforming. Again not saying the werehog did not have his problems but I really enjoyed playing all of Sonic Unleashed.
Congraulations Sonic and your 20th anniversary, can't wait until Sonic Generations. Peace out man.

It's easy to get access to the older Sonic games now. you can access the old titles on any system or better yet, google something called a GENS emulator and Sonic roms. That would definitely get you quick access to those games.
In regards to Sonic Heroes I did enjoy that game but I did not like Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic and he Secret Rings or its sequel. Sonic Heroes was decent title in my opinion, but the PS2 port was laggy and the strongest port had to be the Gamecube port. So I'm not even surprised with those odds. Sonic Unleashed, I'm not even going to talk about. It's just too complicated for me to explain my hatred towards that game. hopefully though, I really hope Sonic Entreating doesn't suck. It's sad that people have to say that about a Sonic Game. and none of my comrades in the Nintendo fanbase are saying "let's hope Super Mario 3DS won't suck" But we all know Mario canon 3D games are pretty much perfect and they follow the SAME formulas in gameplay we seen in Mario 64 except maybe the concept in Galaxy 1 and 2 were dealing with space, but overall it was the same shit but a bit more complicated and so much fun.
Ok SEGA, don't let your fans down, make this game a good one and fix the edits and LISTEN to your fans!

Todd, this was a very excellent thought on the Blue Blur's 20th anniversary, if I say so myself.
I remember when I was 4 & my brother was playing Sonic 1 on his Genesis & as soon as my hands touched the controller, I know Sonic would establish the gamer I am today.
I also despise the crap we've had to endure since Sonic Adventure 2 (Werehogs, Swords, Hoverboards, Guns, Shadow's "Ressurction", Too many new "Friends" & INTERSPECIES ROMANCE). Then out of nowhere came Sonic Colors who destroyed the never-ending road of medeocrity. & Judging from recent footage, Generations seems to be getting the same message.
THANK YOU for saying the 3 magic words of what made Sonic successful: Speed, Platforming, & Exploration. I can't believe that some fans think "OMGBOOSTTOPOINTATOPOINTBFTW!!!" nonsense is made Sonic famous. Last time I checked, Sonic was also about jumping on platforms & explorating a zone's enviroments.
Also some think Sonic should be all serious & gritty. Just keep the story simple & light-hearted while epic of focusing on Sonic's adventures of foiling Dr. Robotnik/Eggman's schemes for world domination. No "Monster-of-the-Week formula", please.
Sonic, just keep on running & thank you for being the Fastest Thing Alive. Peace.

Oh? Well it's still just a summary, it's not even enough to cover the entire franchise. Thank you for the comment. I appreciate it.

Epic, as always, m'man. DEM PANTIES, SON! DEM PANTIES! Gohan's got dat guddah-guddah! lol
But yeah, Sonic Generations is gonna freakin' rock, dude. I kid you not. Even if th' demo only lets you play as Genesis Sonic (I don't call 'im Classic, that much), the detail of Green Hill Zone in HD, is simply just outstanding, and so is the music.
You may or may not can tell, but th' original Green Hill IS there, playin' in th' background melody. I mean, even now, I'm still listening to it via MP3, and even from the day of Sonic Boom 2011, to now, I'm STILL beatboxing and hummin' along to the song lol
In my opinion, I still say Sonic Unleashed was the game that brought Sonic back.
Ok, So werehog wasn't interesting, to most folks, and maybe the difficulty wasn't there, and maybe there wasn't THAT much platforming... BUT, It was Sonic with high-speed running BEYOND breakneck speeds, drifting sharp corners, like a freakin' performance race car, the detail of the Hedgehog Enging, bringin' Sonic's world into HD, and awesome music... specially Empire City's Skyscraper Scamper stage... It had that genuine NY flavor.
All in all, that did it for me. I LOVE Unleashed, for that, 100%.
Now Colors, is another thing.
I love BOTH versions of Color, not just because of the gameplay, but because it's just so damn fun to play. Th' music's good, too.
Only two Sonic games I didn't like at all, and were a complete waste of time, were Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic '06. They felt rushed, and just unenthusiastic to me, man. I felt that there could've done betta. And they should've. However, there's one constant.... They both have awesome music... lol
Just felt like expressin' my feelings 'bout the blue dude wit' th' 'tude, and his many adventures
Keep on running, Sonic! Happy 20th Anniversary!
And keep it cool, Todd... Way past!
