in the thumbnail i was trying to figure out what was with his waist, but after having read your comment about why you chose it and did it, i can see where you were going with it, and i agree. his face is also slightly androgynous and the "corset" really enhances it.

Thanks. Yeh, it's an interesting image for me with those shadows. I'm glad I gave it a shot because the image has received a lot of positive response everywhere I've shared it. Sometimes you just have to take a chance on the unusual.

I can't make comment on the technique, because I know nothing about photography.
But it is simply magnificent. Peaceful.
Golden smooth skin...

Thank you! He does have gorgeous skin and it's one of the reasons why MAC makeup uses him as a model for their bodypaint line.

Thank you! One of the deviants below commented that the shadow of the armrest was unfortunate. It was the first time I'd heard anybody not feel that the shadows here were an important part of what made the piece so appealing. Its companion shadow duplicates Russ' pec and nipple and the shadow of his finger across his upper cheek combine to make a troika of shadows that completely change the nature of this piece. They're not shadows that I would ordinarily have allowed to have a seat at the table, but for whatever reasons here I find them desireable.
The shadow from the armrest makes his waist look super small, almost like a victorian corset effect, which of course would be so completely out of place here were it not for the fact that it works. I pulled the towel further down on his groin so that it crossed directly at the top of his shaft, lending what I think is a very subtle level of eroticism. I wanted that - it's what the images were about. But I didn't want to cross over into obviousness. Had Russ been sporting normal pubes this wouldn't have worked and the towel would have remained pulled up.
There are a lot of things that go into creating these kinds of images for me but in the moment of creation I have to work fast and trust my instincts because when the sun is this low in the sky it goes in a hurry. Those fascinating shadows on Russ' body are an indication that there were only moments of sunlight left to work with. At that point I can't second guess what I'm doing - I have to trust and work fast and hope for the best! Russ is a professional model and a dream to work with. That makes a lot of difference.

i wrote a beautiful response here, then never pressed send..happens!!
the Shadows are genius..the golden body in hourglass shape makes one do a double take..like the photo is about to go into comic strip...
Love what you say about how you work to the moment..with a risk factor...Thanks for sharing this...

Peace. Solitude and loneliness are not the same. This is peaceful solitude.

the light is indeed beautiful, as is the model, but the armrest's shadow is extremely unlucky in my opinion - simply glimpsing at the picture you could think he's got a wasp waist
