Could you do me a favor and briefly summarize the story.
I am completely ignorant of the Yellow King, other than all the spookey True Detective stuff, even after that show I am unaware of the actual story.

It's from the end of the 1800s. It's basically a bunch of short stories about a mysterious book (called the King in Yellow), and whoever reads it goes mad. It was the original inspiration for H.P. Lovecraft's idea for the necronomicon. The book itself is never quoted in any of the stories except for one line which they work into the true detective show pretty well. The line was something along the lines of "take off your mask".Β
I would recommend reading at least the first 3 short stories in the published book, you can get it free as an ebook ^_^.Β
