Description
Next:[link]NOTE: I spent a long time on this comic. If you may, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what you liked/didn't like/how I could do better instead of just saying "nice" or something like that. EVERYTHING is Β© ME.
Whew! I finally got around to actually drawing and painting this comic about my little Leaf Creature named Earnest! (indirectly) thanks to . Seeing some great watercolor comics gave me the encouragement to do my own. This is just the first part, so stay tuned for more! (that is, once I go buy a new watercolor pad.)
I think I've mentioned that I use a lightbox nowβthat is, I took out a clear drawer from a plastic chest and tape my first paper on top and my watercolor paper on top of that, and I hold my desk lamp between my legs for the light while I ink it. It's a bit complicated, but it works and I don't need to worry about erasing pencil lines!
Hope you enjoy this, and PLEASE crit and comment! As I said earlier, I spent a lot of time on this and it would be appreciated!

Congrats on teh DD, really intresting comic! I love this guy, and I think the sunset is brilliant, too
Oh, well, just because you asked for... I think the whole comic is great, but somehow the way you join the parts... I mean, the blurry thing seems a bit strange to me. At first I did not notice it, so it's really not a big thing, I just thought I might mention...
(sorry for my english...)

Yes, the expressions on the little guys face. The way you do it with nothing but 2 eyes, and the tilt of his head. It's great. The colors shout out, and go with the feel of the whole story. Which, I'm not really sure what the story is. Maybe, for me, that would be the only negative thing I would have to say. Except that I want to go back and look at it more and more to try and fully understand what is being said. I think that the level of expression is perfect. Very cool .

Amazing! I really liked how you painted the sea at the start but I think that in the bit where the water starts to swirl, you could have blended the colours a bit more. just trying to help! great job

The panneling and colours are really superm imho. They are soft yet clear so that the cute style is underlined. I also like the character design a lot and how the story conveys so many emotions without any words, just by the lighting, perspective etc. The ending made me really sad though. ):
Anyways, well done. I really like this kind of comics!

I love this!
To be honest, I don't see a thing wrong with this comic or a single thing I don't like about it. My absolute favorite thing about it just has to be your use of color in the last panel. It's so stunning and so well-blended!

hmmm I'm on a art-school now where I learn how to make story's for comics and stuff so maybe I can tell a thing or too:
first I like the style I'm really into watercolor myself and for the story I need to know more because I only have a LOT questions right now like; where is he going? why is the sunlight on the water looks like its following him? or in witch kind of world is this happening? stuff like that. so I will stay tuned for that ^^.
ow and one most important thing I learned in the drawing part was umm like in your panel lets say 10. That the line of the underarm looks like its a part of the line from the leafboot it needs to be or under that line or above, but not ON the line. that looks a bit weird but I still make those mistakes myself but I know the rule now so thats why I can tell you this now ;3
nice beginning hope you'll enjoy making more <3

Holy whoa, this is beautiful.
I absolutely love the fluidity of the whole peice, the way things would flow from panel to panel, and it reminded me very much of the water you were trying to get at. It was especially true in the bigger panels, where the large one flowed behind the small ones it was coming from or leading into.

This comic is boss. The only thing I have to say about it not said by *blueLudebar is that I feel that when you use the smudge tool to smear the first shot of the whirpool with the second one is that it's kinda obvious & since the color doesn't have dips & bends in it like water color does, and is much bolder than watercolor anyways. Still, I only caught it on my second look through, so it doesn't interfere with the story at all.

tomato-bird In reply to TinkerTrex [2011-06-05 17:57:58 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! Yeah, I decided to smudge the whirlpool scenes because the end of the page made a rude break with the next one, and I wanted to smooth the transition a bit more.

Oh gosh. I love this little comic. It's very easy to follow and the story is very deep.
It's about this noodle-limb(yes I read your comments too~) who is tired of the everyday thing and wants to get away from it. So he packed his things up, never looking back. Never planning to come back to his old life, and sets off to anywhere. As long as it wasn't back home.
The day is almost over and has he made a mistake? Maybe. He looks back to the horizon... home was nowhere to be found. It's lo late to go back. He keeps going farther untill his journey came to a stop. A Whirlpool sucks him in. And in desperation looks through his suitcase for salvation. Did he find anything? Nostalgia.
That's the story this comic told me

Whoa....I really enjoyed reading your impression of this! I'm glad I was able to get the message across pretty clearly, though did you think that all the floating stuff actually came out of his suitcase? Because after rereading this it sort of seems like that's what happened... I'm glad even this little part was able to tell a semi-complete story on it's own, even though it's part of a larger story I have in mind.

SukiNinja In reply to tomato-bird [2011-06-04 00:54:19 +0000 UTC]
yeppers. I think that, those things actually came out of his suitcase~ Like, when the water turning yellow and red represented the warm feeling of homesickness or something like that.
Can't wait to see the rest~

tomato-bird In reply to SukiNinja [2011-06-04 01:30:54 +0000 UTC]
That's a really deep interpretation! Though unfortunately I have a bit of a more literal explanation for his suitcase. It's sort of a place where he can store light, if you know what I mean. You got the Nostalgia part of the Sea right though, the sea is supposed to be a sort of symbolic, dreamlike netherworld where there are objects from the past and stuff....I have it worked out in my head, but it'll come into the comic much later.

Well instead of a leaf it was a pistachio shell and I flew in the sky with the stars and into a black hole and it led to a floating island
It was pretty weird XD
But it kinda reminded me of it, your drawing C:

Dr Seuss I actually wasn't thinking about Dr. Seuss when I did this, but now that you mention it.... Maybe I'll just have to find a way to include long stripe-stockinged trees and vaudeville chickens!
