Description
First |Previous |Next*Edit* NEXT PART IS FINALLY DONE!!!!!Β
...in which Estonia cries and we meet Ukraine and see only Stalin's legs.
A VERY short chapter, but it's supposed to stand on its own...it's more like an interlude than a chapter, but I had to get it done, since the next part (invasion of Terijoki, fighting scenes oh my) will probably take longer. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for reading!
Yes, I know my "Baltic fleet"is very lame. XD More like Noah's ark or something...

This is so great!!! I so do hope you'll continue this, please! (makes puppy eyes)
This should be in every history book in the schools of Finland (and other countries round here).
My grandfather was in the war in 1942-44, wounded badly but survived. I hope my son (now 5 years old) will read this some day.
If you want to ask anything that may help you continuing this I'll be happy to answer!

Awww thank you! Actually after two years of school busyness i am finally working on the continuation! I'm glad this can be informative, i've learned so much by starting this project and by having people comment on their own/their family's experiences. Definitely a fascinating time indeed! And thanks for the offer! As the story progresses i'll probably need to do more research

This seems like it'll be really interesting if you continue it. The Winter War in itself was unique in that even though the Soviet Union suffered more casualties, they still won and took major parts of Finland, even more than they had originally asked Finland to cede. Furthermore, because of the Soviet losses, Hitler expected the Soviet Union to be a push-over in WWII and was a major reason he thought it would be okay to invade.

Thank you! (and I am continuing it!) Yeah it was really critical in that sense, also because the Allied nations were thinking that in possibly helping finland, they could strategically stop over and make use of the resources in Norway (iron/steel I think??? I need to look up the details again), since both sides were vying for control of that. Of course, the Winter War ended really shortly so that put an end to that planΒ

Scene from Mcgee's Alice/ Hetalia Crossover "Adventures of Wonderland"
Alice dries Wonderland's tears and softly sings
"Hush little baby don't say a word
Mama's gonna keep you safe and sound
and if they won't leave us alone
Mama's gonna use her Vorpal Blade
and if they tried to do the bad touch on you
Mama's gonna break all of their fingers
and if they tried to take you away
Mama's gonna cut off all their heads
and if they ever capture you
Mama's gonna rip their cold-hearts out
and if they ever tried to control you
Mama's gonna make their nightmares come true"

It takes place many years after Alice kills Bumby and in WW2.. after she and her son chibi-Wonderland kill all the other people who have hurt her including the workers at Rutledge... Alice become The Queen and Wonderland become a paradise for all the children Alice rescue from neglectfulness, from famine, from deception, from violence, from prostitution, from slavery, from abuse, and from wars. Wonderland was a secret nation until he met Italy, Romano, Poland and the Baltics... But when Italy reveal Wonderland to the World by mistake. Many nations are after him and their people are after his "mum" and it's now harder for Wonderland to rescue children due to his new enemies....
the only way to get into Wonderland is in a rabbit hole or through a looking glass and they are everywhere in the world.....

Just watched the "You can't take me" vid, and I think I'm in love againβwith Alfred, with history, and with Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmarron. I watched that movie so many times as a kid, and it brought back lots of good memories. Oh, and the John Adams theme song! never get tired of that, ever

I don't really remember the Spirit movie, but I love that Alfred video
And yes, I never ever get sick of the John Adams theme. I started re-watching the series with some of my family, they were going to skip the intro, but I wouldn't let them lol.

This is AMAZING! I can't wait for the next chapter! I really love your style. Creepy Russia is creeptastic! I'm almost attracted to him.
I thought I was over the whole national war trauma thing, but the story so far actually got me indignant again. For some reason I'm more in a huff over Russia blaming Finland and calling him a liar than the actual war
My grandpa's step dad went mia in Winter War and grandpa himself became a pioneer in the continuation war at the mature age of 17.

Thank you! I'm glad you like itβyeah the whole false accusation about Mainila was a dirty trick, not even that well done, but still, they wanted an excuse to invade. >
I'm very honored as well that there are Finns (descendants of the WW soldiers no less ) who enjoy this comicβat first I wondered if it would be too presumptuous of me to do a comic about it, given that I'm not Finnish (or European at all, for that matter) but I've already done pieces about the Russian Revolution and other stuff and plus the Winter war is just so fascinating that I just had to make one.

VerityVulpes In reply to tomato-bird [2012-06-17 18:21:29 +0000 UTC]
I think you not being Finnish just makes it more interesting cos you see it all from a different angle. I'm all too familiar with the way we see the war and as strange as this might sound, I can easily feel a little uncomfortable when a Finn draws or writes something about it. Like "yes, yes, that's all old news, we all know about it and no one else cares, this is embarrassingly patriotic". I don't know maybe it's some fear of nationalism mixed with that Finnish psyche thing about never tooting your own horn
Also, in recent years many national symbols have become symbols of bad taste thanks to rising nationalism. Like 10 years ago I could have easily worn a necklace with the lion crest dangling on it, but nowadays wearing such a necklace would label me really strongly into something I don't want to be. It's strange to call a war a symbol, but in a way Winter War has become like the crest. Maybe because of these t-shirts that say "thank you 1939-1945".
Anyway, point is, it's awesome that you choose to draw this and I really appreciate it!

tomato-bird In reply to VerityVulpes [2012-06-24 04:38:26 +0000 UTC]
Once again thank you! I sort of see what you mean now about and I'm glad that it can and has so far been able to be appreciated by Finns in a "different angle" as well. I only learned about the Winter War this year, and because of that I suppose I have a very different reaction to it than someone who grew up knowing all about it.
Glad you enjoyed! The next pages are giving me some difficulty and will probably take some more time, but I hope to get them done well at least. ;D
