Description
The Defender Steampunk helm is nearing completion. I'm still working on the accompanying gasmask. Made of leather, resin and metal components.Related content

A very amazing piece. The nice combination of leather and metal work is very appealing to the eye. The dichotomy of a leather cap with the metal rivets and light piece is so attractive to the eye it's really hard to decide which was actualized better.
The design is fairly duotone, but it actually works extremely well for this piece, whereas it might be detrimental towards some other pieces.
This looks like just one part of an impressive uniform, and It'd be amazing to see this turned into just one piece of a costume. It'd be supremely interesting to see what you'd do with a pickax.

Thank you so much. As I have made several brown helmets and gasmasks, I wanted to make this one black. But black is so monotone that I decided to put in some red and violet undertones, as you can see in the photo. I am also limiting the metal parts to silver color (as much as possible). The accompanying gasmask that I am still working on should really round out the "head" of the costume. I don't really do below the neck, but I agree it would be nice to have that done.

Freakin love it. Tasteful application of a tactful layer of beauty over utilitarian design.

Incredible!
What did you study or do to get to this level of craftsmanship?
The different culture and influences here go amazing together! I see Roman+space+mining

I've done all kinds of arts and crafts, plus studied history and costume. I started with a Darth Vader shape, which has a heavy Japanese samurai influence. I added the crest which is used on many different helms, but I've never seen it done as scales like this. That is a dinosaur influence. The front plate is another common helmet feature, and I added the light to make it functional for a steampunk look. Yes, it looks like some sort of miner's helmet.
Thanks for writing, Tom

Well I have to say your style looks perfect now, complete as if you've tried many ways and found the ones which work best for you.
Thanks for the breakdown on the helmet design.

Thank you! My story is that this is part of the Gryphon Interplanetary Aeroship Expedition, thus the bas relief griffins.
