Description
Hi everyone. I did this for the Brainstorm Facebook group challenge. I've painted Batman quite a lot, so I thought I'd try and be a little different. I hope you like him. Let me know what you think.Cheers.

You've invented a really cool character here!! Anubis was a dog so what about 'Dogman'?! He looks badass

You will make this into a bad-ass comic or I will track you down and break your legs with your own T-square. And, since it might be one of those cheap C-Thru wooden ones, it'll take a good goddamn long time.
Unless you run. In which case, I will likely not catch you. Because I like pizza. And am therefore out of shape.

Your Batman is a foreigner, I get it: the writing, called cuneiform, is from Mesopotamia, which was just south of the current Iraq territories. That's quite a bit of travel in the desert, unless he's travelling with a trading mission. I can't make out the writing on the helmet, but I'm fairly certain it's neither of the languages of Ancient Egypt.
Regardless of languages, the painting looks great, and the idea itself is new and refreshing for a rather stale and solid image of the Bat. It's good that you've made him black-skinned, too: it was very hard, if at all possible, to see any white people that far south.

That's what Batman would look like if his adventures would be set in the times of Ancient Egypt. Comparably no technological advancement of that time means little to no gadgets, but otherwise, it's a true-to-reality reimagination.

I understand. Keep in mind that Batman is a symbol of what people fear the most. Anubis was associated with afterlife in Ancient Egypt's religion, so it would stand to reason people would be more afraid of him than of a bat.

i personally am not too familiar with batman lore, but that doesnt stop me from thinkin that the joker is more of that symbol then batman, but still, the anubisman should have some kind of hight-for-the-time-tech gadgets to fit more with filthy-rich superpower.

I agree, some high tech would be detremential to show that any Batman is a savvy engineer; being set in Ancient Egypt should not stop any one of them from thinking.
The Joker is the antithesis to Batman. When Batman is a power of justice, though feared even by the upstanding citizens (which is the point of the symbol), he will bring criminals down no matter what; the Joker is this to the criminal world: he will take whatever he thinks he could need, use, or even what others may need, and will not stop before anything - that's why he is feared among the supervillians, even.
But Batman is a symbol in another way: he is not Batman because he's feared, he's feared because he's Batman - but anybody can become Batman should the previous cape wearer die. This is how it intrepreted in the Christopher Nolan movies: should one Batman die or retire to to professional physical or mental dent, another Batman may come to life, which is exactly what happened in the third movie.
The Joker may not die for many times, but when he does, he will not leave a mask to take on - only power vacuum to be filled, and nobody else that will come after him will be even close to the way he was.

I think we agree about Anubisman-ness and the improvement path of givin him sth gadget like that money could buy, though.
And instead of "Anubis Batman" id call it "Anubisman - the Batman of Anchient Egypt".

Trade missions could be very wealthy, especially in Africa: people of Africa were very rich until Europeans showed up, ruined the kingdoms that were not theirs to do anything with and made many black people into slaves. There might be a way for the Egyptian Batman to receive their wealth without him being a criminal. Or, maybe, he is a criminal already, and stealing all the "greed money" might not be a problem for him; maybe that's one of the reasons he covers his face.
I believe the name of the art piece is for the author to decide. You should contact him: maybe he will accept your proposition.

I really like this interpretation, it's really different. Though it kind of bothers me that there isn't anything really to show that he's a 'bat' man.

It looks great dude. The helmet especially is really nicely done. I have to say though, without reading the title it's a bit hard to tell that this is supposed to be a version of Batman.

Thanks Joel. Yeah, I found it quite hard to get the symbolism in. Maybe he needs a more obvious bat symbol or something, or a cape of some kind. Cheers.
