Description
A cladogram showing the hypothetical evolutionary relationships (ooo big words!) between the different species in Minecraft (as of 1.3.2). The Latin words are the genus names.

Before anyone points out that mushrooms aren't plants in real life, note that on the Minecraft Wiki they are counted as plants and we could define 'plant' here as 'planted in the ground' in the Minecraft world.

All images (except for the trees which I took ingame) came from the Minecraft Wiki.

Edited 20/09/12: I have included the new mobs for 1.4 as well as the carrot and potato. I have also added the 'diseased' mobs. When a human is infected with the zombie virus it first becomes a zombie. As time progresses it slowly decomposes until only bones and ligaments are left, creating skeletons, which eventually turn tall and black due to the virus adding material to the host, becoming a wither skeleton. Sometimes more than one wither skeleton combine into a wither. Somewhere between the zombie and skeleton stages of the disease the host dies in agony. A few other species, such as testificates and pigmen, can be infected with zombism but they always die long before the virus can turn them into skeletons.

Edited 03/04/13: I have included grass and mycelium as living things (not including the dirt). They are classed as bacteria since plants don't quite carpet the land in the way that they can. Tall grass is still a separate species of plant. I got the idea from here: www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1…

Edited 09/07/13: Added horses and donkeys. Mules are not included as cladograms don't usually include hybrids.
