I grew up watching the TOS cast get older (late 70's on ward) and Scotty was the one to change the most. I didn't want to draw him as the "Fat Scotty" as most media often cruelly joked about. I chose keep a him more closely to what he looked like in "Search for Spock"

Yeah, I didn't mean it to sound cruel. I like him when he's chubbier, but that's because I think he's huggable that way, not because I want to make fun of him. And also, the Voyage Home was the first piece of Star Trek I ever saw as a little girl, so for me, it was the opposite, I was surprised when I first saw the TV show and saw a thinner dark-haired Scotty! He's awesome either way. You do great art of the whole crew!

I know the feeling. I couldn't figure out why Kirk's hair looked so different from TOS to TMP. It wasn't until 5 or 6th grade that it dawned on me that Shatner was wearing toupee.
