Description
Here is the process to the city. The basic shapes you can see are very rough. There are a few custom 'crane' and other structure brushes I think I got from I think an issue of imagine FX. But the key thing is a sense of depth, which gives the appearance of space. I added more and more shapes until it was time to apply the lights. As we go backwards the lights get smaller and smaller. It was also important to add the city 'glow' this was done with just a soft air brush and eraser on a new layer. The lights themselves are taken from photos of citys like Tokyo and hacked up. These are added on a new layer set to COLOR DODGE. It takes a while to get things in the right place and its trial and error till everything looks right. Its good to collect a huge recourse of city reference to do this. The final stage is colour correcting using colour balance and hue saturation. Hope this helps those who have asked how this piece was done. Tone.Related content

Thanks a lot ! We often see processes for cities, but never the explanation of the brushes, layer modes and glow. I'm gonna try this today
