Rogue Star

Lamprey (Rogue + Parasite) and Carol Marvel (Captain Marvel + Mary Marvel)

Ana Marie Jensen was a mutant who discovered a power to absorb memories with a touch. A mild power that caused confusion and a sense of forgotten memories in her victim, but it frightened her and she ran away. One day she was dumpster diving outside a Lexxon research station, when she found a container that was full of irradiated biohazard materials.
  This radiation changed her, robbing her of her human looks and making her look like a lumpy purple humanoid lamprey and increased her powers by levels of magnitude until she could absorb memories, personalities, abilities and even metahuman powers.
  L.O.D.O.K.S. (the being created from Lexxon’s original founder Lex Luthor, the Green Skull) was aware of this transformation and sent two of his agents Exotique and Silver Destiny to bring the young meta-mutant into the fold. The two women found the woman and comforted her, trained her, and all but adopted her.
  The ultimate goal of L.O.D.O.K.S. is to destroy Super Soldier, and he saw the woman, now calling herself “Lamprey” as a means to that end. In order to train her in combatting such a powerful foe, Exotique arranged for her to ambush and attack Carol Marvel. Lamprey ambushed Carol Marvel, but in her inexperience, she maintained contact for too long, permanently absorbing Carol’s memories, personality, and powers.

                Carol Bromfield was a foster child in the house with young Rick Batson. Billy was granted powers by the Supreme Wizard of the Rock of Kree Lar. Speaking the name Mar-Vell, Rick Batson gained the Speed of Makkari, the Judgement of Arishem, the Fortitude of Raggador, the Wisdom of Vishanti, the Cosmic Awareness of Ego, the Cunning of Loki, and the Power of Leviathan. At one point, Billy had to share his power with her, and she learned that if she said the name of the wizard, Mar-Vell, she would become Carol Marvel.

     When Lamprey absorbed Carol’s powers, she gained the ability to say “Mar-Vell” she would gain all the powers of a Marvel. However, the power also changed her so that she looked like the young woman she was before she was transformed into the Lamprey. Ana Marie was already depressed that she couldn’t touch anyone skin-to-skin and now she had the memories of another woman (who was understandably antagonistic toward her) in her head. After a few further adventures with Exotique and her team, Ana Marie ran away and threw herself upon the mercy of the X-Titans, hoping to find a cure.
                After a period of time, she earned her way onto the team, and earned the team’s trust. Eventually, as a full-fledged member of the team, she took the name Rogue Star over the connotations of her past life as Lamprey. Another member of the team was Psy-squire (Beryl Braddock) and at one time, her brother the British Knight (Cyril Braddock) came to the X-Titans for help. He was sent on his quest by Romue, and he asked the X-Titans to accompany him to the year 3000 to help save Camelot from Morgan Le Fey who was arranging for an invasion of the earth by the Mindbrood as part of her scheme. Merlin from the X-Titans time recruited the Obsidian Knight for the same mission.
The X-Titans did as requested, and Rogue Star went with them. After defeating Morgan, Merlin revealed that travelling through time was easy going into the future, but much much more difficult to go backward. They would have to pass through the Siege Perilous to return to their own time, and doing so would cause them to be “changed, body and soul”. Morgan had cursed her specifically due to her role in defeating her.
  Rogue Star ended up in Skartaris, the Savaged Land, and she realized she had not changed at all. She wondered if she wasn’t worthy of the change, but shortly realized she didn’t have her Marvel powers. She still had her Lamprey powers, but did not look like the lumpy purple humanoid lamprey, but instead retained her appearance of her human (meta-mutant) self.
  Rogue Star was stranded in the Savaged Land, without the powers to escape on her own. Eventually she teamed up with Monsieur Magnetite and Ka-Mandi and the Obsidian Knight to defeat Morgan Le Fey in the Savaged Land, after which she was able to return to the outside world.

                As a side note, Skartaris contains the Nexus of All Realities and thus touches many realities. Although Obsidian Knight and the X-Titans were drawn to Camelot 3000 to fight the Mindbrood, they are not from the same present. The Obsidian Knight had never heard of the X-Titans, and they had not heard of the Judgement League Avengers : West Coast. Monsieur Magnetite has bedeviled the X-Titans, but never fought the JLA:WC, but all of them co-existed in Skartaris.



Meta Backstory.

                Well. That’s a lot of words to create a character to essentially draw a cheesecake picture of. When I was working on all my Skartaris the Savaged Land entries, one thing I noticed: Everytime I looked up “Savage Land” to either research a character or a part of the land, google would send me pictures of Savage Land Rogue. So I knew I needed to do a “Savage Land Rogue” for my amalgam worlds. I have never been a fan of Runaway, and besides, I don’t usually draw any of the original established amalgam characters…. So I needed a new amalgam. I wanted to put her in the X-Titans amalgam reality, so I figured I’d need a titan to amalgam her with. I looked through the communities amalgams here and saw both Starfire and Mary Marvel. Although I liked Starfire as an amalgam, I decided I still wanted to hold her back for another amalgam, and when I thought of Carol Marvel, a friend suggested the magic word would be Mar-Vell. So now I have all kinds of Marvel family ideas combining Kree and Marvel characters (the most exciting one in my head is Black Ronan…maybe I’ll get to him soon).
            The picture has the expected dinosaurs tugging at her costume, but the faeries trying to scold the dinosaurs is a nod to the magic of the land of Skartaris.

                Like I said… a lot went into designing this character, then figuring out how she got stranded in the savage land, just to draw this wonderfully fun cliché jungle girl picture. I hope you like it!
