Another old, and I mean very old piece I did years ago. I always liked this piece, its very graphic and simple. Its not stellar by any means but it always remind me of finally finding my style or at least how I go about doing pieces. This is around the time I first started trying to combine digital and traditional work. where as i always penciled and inked a piece and put it on the computer with poor results. I realized that I'm really not that good at using Photoshop so I tried to capture as much as i could before even scanning the piece. The Tony Renaissance if you will.
By the way, Samus rocks!

Ah yeah baby. Her greatest era. Even though I really wanna play the new one regardless of the bad criticism. I mean really does anyone play games by team ninja for the story or character development. I think not. so why was it a big suprise her character sucks or was whiny? Come on people.

So Other M acted like a remake of the series? Hmm interesting, I enjoyed Prime but never got to play through the whole game. As far as Other M goes, my attention was caught by the gameplay. It looks more action oriented and face paced. I know the other metroid's were more about exploration but to be honest that tends to drive me mad. Only because I'm very obsessive compulsive about things like that.
Mind you none of this matters because I don't have a WII at the moment so I'm settling for taking on big bug monsters on my Xbox 360 with Lost Planet 2. I do eventually plan to own one so I can finish through Zelda and play Other M and finish the Prime series. Oh how I love backwards compatibility.

Other M was refreshing, as far as gameplay and art style goes, but just depressing as far as story goes. Samus seems to have what people have labeled as "daddy issues" with Adam, and breaks down at the sight of Ridley, when it's been many years and face-offs with the beast since her first encounter with him, where she first exhibited such...behavior? The issue of a traitor is never resolved, Samus' monologues are boring and awkward, and the final battle is quite unsatisfying. The battle beforehand, however, was epic. Overall, Other M did a lot of things right, but still ruined my favorite video game character while she was in her Prime (Pun sort of intended).

That does sound pretty awful, Samus is supposed to be a badass. I mean seriously. Well maybe they will get it right next time. any idea how the sales were for Other M. I mean will there be a next time.
By the way, what other games do you play? You seem to know alot about the Metroid series. Your a hardcore fan dude. I feel like I have alot more insight just talking to you.

If you're asking what other Metroid games I play, I've played all of them and beaten all of them except Metroid II: Return of Samus and Metroid Prime: Pinball. If you're asking about series, well just tell me and I'll give you a list XD What about you? What do you play? Its my pencils, Shaded the whole thing with pencil, then colored over top of it.

The Textures and Light Sourcing kick ass on this... Basically proves that photoshop had 25 % of why this piece is dope!

I'm not really sure what the going price for posters are these days.
Maybe 5-10 dollars? I'm not entirely sure, because I would give just about anything for a Metroid poster like this in my room right about now.
Put it up for print and I'll buy a copy or two, as long as the price is reasonable

Dude, I saw this and my jaw legit just dropped!!
I think your style says a lot about you. This has this retro look to it that reminds me of the style found on the Metroid II: ROS box art. Ah, the good 'ol days. I like the retro look, the simplicity, and how tough the suit just looked, in general. All's I can say is, I dig this. Your style is something else. And...I mean that in a good way.

Hey I really appreciate your kind words, I just looked up the box art and your right, it does resemble it a lot. I never was able to keep my Gameboy game boxes because they really were pointless since the cartridges were so small. I always just bought little cases. I always dug how hardcore Samus's armor looked and I see a lot of people who draw her and make her look very graceful which is cool but why not make her look hardcore and rough like shes been doing intergalactic butt kicking. Mind you my next piece of her will probably be more graceful but whatever.

I know how you feel--there are many sides of Samus, each of them awesome in it's own way. The bad, intergalactic butt-kicking side is awesome, and I like to see deviations like this one because of that. Inspiring and awesome.

Thank you and i would but then I'd have to kill you. To be honest my process has evolved since doing this piece. Its been so long since I did this. But what would you like to know? As far as drawing Samus, I shaded her all in Pencil, using ink only for the line-art and just mainly outlines and heavy shades. Scan it and added color on photoshop. Mainly just putting a layer of color over it and setting the layer to multiply. I play with layer options a lot. once all the color is on i darken certain areas, flatten it and then add highlights using the paint brush with "screen" and the "color dodge" setting, Keeping the opacity low so I can gradually add highlights to my liking. The background and logo I really have no idea.
I believe Adi Granov uses a similar process except he's a lot better at it than I am. I use markers instead of pencils for shading to save time.

So you basically shaded it in pencil and slapped multiply color layers over it to make it look so awesome? o.o
I could try that, coloring well via photoshop is a pain imo.
